Balances Act and urge you to put in on the ballot. Regardless of your position on the Act itself,

you should put the measure on the ballot so that we Sacramentans can continue to discuss

and debate the proposal until Election Day and then finally put the matter to rest with a public

vote. Refusing to let the public vote is just continuing the petty and toxic politics that has

afflicted the Council for too long.

Sacramento is on the verge of taking off as a city. But, we're held back by an outmoded way of runningour city set up 90 years ago for a smaller, less complex and sophisticated city. It’s a system that nolonger works, and must be changed.

Across Sacramento, residents want the opportunity to weigh in on this issue. We have many frustrations- the instability of four chief executives in 18 months; the chronic lack of progress on fiscal, economicand civic challenges; the steady loss of resources and opportunities to other parts of the region andbeyond; and the erosion in voters’ trust in city leaders to follow the will of the people.

You have the power to set a better course by placing the Checks and Balances Act on the June 2012ballot. The plan includes many needed reforms to our governance system, ethics and transparencypolicies, and redistricting process.
