It’s here….finally Spring has Sprung!
I came across this article from the
Canadian Mental Health Association
that I would like to share. There are
a few good reminders for us as we
“step into Spring”. Alison
3 Tips to get the Spring in Your Step:
We have weathered the snow storms
and bundled up through the freezing
temperatures, and now Spring is
around the corner. While winter can
be grey, Spring offers a new begin-
ning. Why not start this Spring off as
your best self? As the days grow
green and bright, we have 3 tips to
help you feel your best this season:
1. GET OUTSIDE ~ As Spring ap-
proaches we’ll see more daylight
and more sunshine. Vitamin D,
which comes from the sun, can
boost your mood and energy levels.
You can also increase your vitamin-
D intake by using light therapy or
taking supplements.
2. GET ACTIVE ~ Exercising relieves
stress and increases energy. While
working out and staying active may
be easier said than done, start off
by setting small goals. Take the
stairs instead of the escalator, go
for a 10 minute walk on your lunch
break.
3. EAT A BALANCED DIET~ It’s
easy to turn to comfort food when you
feel under the weather. While it is
okay to treat yourself, it’s important
to ensure your diet is filled with foods
that make you feel good. Make sure to
include lots of fruits and veggies to
keep your spirts up. Some research
suggest foods rich in omega-3 fatty
acids such as fish and eggs, may also
boost your mood.

the classroom to create an enor-
mous sturdy building. Block play
can help children explore cause
and effect and learn about gravi-
ty, stability weight and balance.

Tall towers
Architects are among us at Our Lady
of Lourdes. Their beginning struc-
tures were shaky and small. After
researching about tall city towers in
a book we found in the library, the
children learned that a sturdy struc-
ture needs a strong solid base. Then

discovery is our love of
spray painting with spray
water bottles. First we tried
outside where we found it
very hard to use our fingers
to spray while wearing
warm gloves. We then de-
cided to bring it indoors
where we explored coloring
mixing, discovered we could
collect the water in bowls,
and worked very hard on
our fine motor. We are very
excited to see what new dis-
coveries we will make as the
weather changes

With Spring here and the
warmer weather upon us, the
Toddlers are very excited to
be splashing in some puddles,
exploring the community on
walks, and of course making
mud creations. Spring brings
so many new opportunities
for the Toddlers to explore
and experience the world
around them. Our newest

for Springtime to arrive ~ that time of year when they no longer need their snowsuits to head outdoors! During the winter months we have been very fortu-nate to be able to use the multi purpose room when it is just too cold or icy for outdoor play. Most recently we have been working on our throwing and catching skills. These activities encourage sharing and enhance the child’s ability to play co-operatively as they pass items back and forth together. We look forward to bringing these newly developed skills outside where we can soon begin to play in the grass.
The Preschoolers have been showing great
interest in shapes; Invitations to Play through
art, sensory activities and dramatic play have
been incorporated into the learning environ-
ment to support their interest. Our classroom
photo documentation nicely highlights their
progress! The Trillium Team

greenhouse, they scooped soil and planted sunflower seeds. Everyday the preschoolers are reminded to water their plants to help them grow. We can’t wait for the warm-er weather so we can branch out with our new found green thumbs and do some planting outside. Ashley & Asia
In mid February our preschool program had the opportunity to try micro-greening. Our preschool friends had a blast learning to grow grass and sunflowers in our classroom greenhouse. With their inter-est blossoming we took that interest and created our own personal greenhouses for our friends to care for. The chil-dren used plastic cups as their

The infants love a challenge. They have been enjoying materials that they can manipulate in their own ways. These activities have been great to support their atten-tion span and problem solving as well enhancing their abilities to go from solitary to parallel play. We are all anxiously awaiting the official arrival of Spring so we can enjoy explora-tion outdoors and get hands on with nature. We love to watch the birds, bunnies and chipmunks come around our outdoor play space and we get intrigued by mucky puddles and the grass sprouting back.
