QR (Quick Response) Codes• Trademarked matrix (two-dimensional) barcodes

• Invented (Japan, 1994) by Toyota’s Denso Wave to track vehicles during manufacture

• Fast to read

• Large storage capacity

• URLs, V-cards, text, etc

• Trackable

“Unlike the old bar code that was designed to be mechanically scanned by a

narrow beam of light, the QR code is detected as a 2-dimensional digital image by

a semiconductor image sensor and is then digitally analyzed by a programmed

processor. The processor locates the three distinctive squares at the corners of

the image, and normalizes image size, orientation, and angle of viewing. The

small dots are then converted to binary numbers and validity checked with an

error-correcting code.” (Wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code

International Museum Day

• 18 May 2012: 35th International Museum Day

• More than 30,000 museums in about 100

countries

• Theme for 2012: ‘Museums in a Changing

World. New challenges, New inspirations’

“The theme invites museums and their visitors to think about the role of museums in our society in an era of numerous changes: International Museum Day 2012 is as much about museums growing and shaping their future, as it is about displaying and interpreting new issues like climate change, new media or social responsibility.” (International Council of Museums)
