right amount.
Know how much toothpaste you should be using.
To keep your mouth and teeth healthy apply toothpaste to the full length of your
toothbrush.
Do not rinse your mouth with water straight after brushing.

Prevent tooth decay and gum disease by avoiding consuming excessive amounts of
free sugar. Snacks, processed food, and soft drinks are all high in sugar. Limit your
sugar intake to roughly 4-6 teaspoons a day. Free sugar refers to sugar that is added to
foods and drinks by the manufacturer or consumer. Also, free sugar presents in honey,
syrups, fruit juice and fruit juice concentrates.
Tobacco and alcohol are bad for your mouth.
Limit your alcohol consumption and don’t smoke. By using alcohol and tobacco you put
your mouth at an increased risk for gum disease and oral cancer. Also, tobacco can
cause bad breath, teeth staining, premature tooth loss, and loss of smell and taste.
Many alcoholic drinks contain high sugar and are acidic and may cause dental caries.
Also, these factors and excessive drinking of alcohol can lead to injury of the mouth
and the teeth.
Protect your mouth and teeth during contact sports.
Whenever you play a sport that involves physical contact wear a professionally made
mouthguard. Mouthguards will �t exactly over your teeth and gums. They are made
from a rubber-like material and act as a cushion that will protect the teeth from fracture,
displacement, or loss. Consult your dentist for advice on whether you need a protective
mouthguard depending on the sport you perform.
Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings.
Depending on your speci�c needs your dentist can advise on how regularly you need to
make an appointment. Prevention, early detection, and treatment are essential for the
best outcomes. Also, this will reduce the risk for oral diseases and associated health
problems.
