On October 19th, after 27 years of faithfully serving in various leg-islative positions from AAHU to TAHU, Lee Manross was uncer-emoniously replaced as TAHU Lobbyist by the TAHU Board dur-ing their quarterly meeting. The TAHU’s Executive Committee, initially concerned with overhead costs, interviewed a large num-ber of lobbyist candidates for over a year. Two finalists, including Lee, made presentations during the TAHU quarterly Board meet-ing. The majority of the board voted to replace Lee Manross with Meroney Public Affairs, LLC This was a difficult and very contentious process. To the best of my knowledge, no one on the DAHU Board was in favor of this change. We had every reason in the world to trust Lee’s abilities and political relationships to influence legislation in the state of Texas. He did the job we asked him to do and his accomplish-ments, over the 19 years he was our Lobbyist, were exceptional. We can only hope and pray his replacement will do as well for our association. Some maybe upset about the change and my first drafts of this ar-ticle reflected my feelings about the event, which are herein, tem-pered by my desire to move forward and grow. We are, after all, a democratic society, and the majority rules. When we are not in the majority it always hurts, but we must understand that the end re-sult of a popular vote has the best interests of the majority, and in their opinion, the best interest for all. So as an organization, and part of Texas Association of Health Un-derwriters, lets get behind our new Lobbyist team, Meroney Public Affairs, LLC, and them know what we need to mold legislation here in Texas, to the benefit of our clients. The future is what we make it. Have a Great Thanksgiving! Jay A. Huminsky, RHU, REBC President, Dallas Association of Health Underwriters

State of the HUnion Political News for Supporters of HUPAC
Welcome to the third State of the HUnion of the 2018 election cycle. This newsletter provides you with election analysis,
news on the PAC, fundraising numbers and who HUPAC has contributed to so far this year. So dive in and take a look!
The first midterm election during a new president's term usually goes poorly for his party in Congress. Republicans will be playing defense, especially on the House side. Even with the political landscape looking poorly for the GOP, due to very few competitive districts, Republicans are still in a good position to remain in power in Congress, albeit with a smaller ma-jority. However, that does not mean Republicans should not be worried, especially if the slow trickle of retirements contin-ues into the beginning of the year.

In conclusion...
The 2017 DAHU Golf Classic is over, and planning has already begun for the
2018 tourney. Mark your calendars for Tuesday September 25, 2018 for next
year’s event.
You might want to know we had some players, we had some winners, we
had sponsors and we had crew; but most of all we had a whole lot of fun.
Winning team represented Rogers Benefit Group, with Lorie Jensen, George
Shoup, Brian Hernandez and Joel Wright, with the AllState team of Pat Wil-
der, Nick Dumont, Bill Brooks and Mark Meuller right behind. Literally, there
was only 2 strokes difference in their weighted scores.
I almost saw something I’d never seen before, and Bill Brooks almost made it
happen. On the Charity Golf Par 5, after Pro Long Driver Mick Yelovich
slammed his ball over 400 yards, Bill nicely settled the 2nd shot less than 3
feet from the hole. Hey Bill, go back and practice that shot a lot, ‘cause
Mick will be back next year to set you up again.
Raffle items and Silent Auction good verily flew out the windows and we
have to thank Donna McCright and MaryLou Hudman for making it the suc-
cess it was. Of course, the bidders were the stars because they helped us
raise over $3,000 to add to our contribution to Jonathan’s Place.
Sponsors’ recognition will be held at the November Luncheon, when we
present our check to the folks at Jonathan’s Place. Please plan to attend.
We expect the final outcome to be 5ive 5igures($$$$$).
Thank you Sponsors, thank you committee, thank you volunteers, thank you
players. Without each and every one of you, and the generosity you share,
we couldn’t do what we do, or do it so well.

to Toys for Tots before the holidays. Donations will also be taken at the meeting, but please
bring a toy, or toys. Your contribution is appreciated and will bring smiles to many children
when they have something to open from Santa! Thanks for your support!
