Stone slab falls at SriJagannath Temple

PURI, Feb 2:A stone slab weighing about

40 kg today fell off ‘JalakridaMandap’ (water recreation hall)of the 12th century SriJagannath Temple here.

The stone was found earlythis morning and there was nocasualty as there were no devo-tees present at the place at thetime, temple public relations offi-cer Laxmidhar Pujapanda said.

Archaeological Survey ofIndia has started the repairingwork, he said.

People were barred frombeing near the site after devoteesvisiting the temple later in theday protested, he added. (PTI)

The Supreme Court todaysought responses from theCentre and the CBSE on a pleato make ‘Moral Science’ subjectcompulsory in class I to XII inschools across the country.

A bench comprising ChiefJustice H L Dattu and Justice A KSiki issued notices to HumanResources Development Ministryand the Central Board ofSecondary Education (CBSE) onthe PIL filed by woman lawyerSantosh Singh on the issue.

“Issue a writ...And directboth respondents (Centre and

CBSE) to include moral sciencein syllabus of School Educationi.E. Class I to Class XII in orderto include moral values and nur-ture national character in thenational interest,” the plea said.

The petition said that there isa rapid degradation of moralvalues in the society where‘making money anyhow’ is thesole motto of life.

The society needs a value-based moral education systemby humanizing education andmaking students global citizenswith universal values, it added.(PTI)
