- Are there differences in attitude toward SeaWorld between different individuals that have been to SeaWorld at least one time in the past?- Have watched “Blackfish” vs. heard of it vs. Haven’t

watched it- Importance?

- Associated Students- Impact on SeaWorld- Associations with SeaWorld

Primary Research Objective:

- Research design- Descriptive research through the use of a survey

- Flow of survey

Designing our Research

- Sample of interest- SDSU Students (55)- SDSU Alumni (11)

- Sample Population (Total sample after cleaning data: 66)

Our Sample Population

- “Blackfish”

- Important variables- All on a 5 point likert scale - (1=Strongly disagree and 5

Strongly agree)- Simplified into a 2 box score

- Limitation- Lack of “I don’t know option” - Simplification of data

“Blackfish” and Important Variables

- How much do you agree or disagree to the following statements- SeaWorld’s killer whales are treated with care - SeaWorld’s killer whales live in a safe environment- SeaWorld’s killer whales live in a suitable environment- SeaWorld’s trainers work under suitable safety

conditions- SeaWorld’s trainers are compassionate toward the

animals they work with

Important Variables (Cont.)

Analysis and Results

Analysis and Results

- Small sample size - Less data collected in specific cases

- Only 9 people didn’t see or hear about “Blackfish”- Many of those 9 didn’t respond to more than 1

question- 2 box score

- Took complex data and made it simple- Accuracy was most likely lost in order to produce

simplicity- Lack of questions that screened out bad respondents

- Questions that contradict each other

Limitations

- Are there differences in attitude toward SeaWorld between different individuals that have been to SeaWorld at least one time in the past?- The data suggests that there is a possible difference

between those that have seen and have heard of “Blackfish”- Average attitude seems to be negative for only

those that have heard of “Blackfish”- Not much data on those that both haven’t seen or

haven’t heard of the movie.

Summary

- Screening out bad responses- Time

- Highly improbable times- Impossible answers

- Other (text box) questions
