Office of the President
Rocky Mountain High – Denver Colorado July 7 – 12, 2019
Jayne and I were able to attend this convention with over 30 Cornhusker Corvette Club members.
The weather was great – the events were fun and the pot brownies were wonderful – just kidding – the weather
was hot.
It was an honor of mine to receive the club trophy for the NCCC
National Points Championship.
The Cornhusker Corvette Club received the Humanitarian Award for
our club’s support of St Jude.
The Cornhusker Corvette Club was the Web Site Contest winner!
The Cornhusker Corvette Club won the Club Attendance Award for
the convention.
Cornhusker Corvette Club members also won in various events –
15 – First place – 1 -second place and 3- third place finishes.
This club is an outstanding group of individuals but also a great team – we excel and enjoy our accomplishments.
But now we are being challenged for the NCCC National Points Championship for 2020.
The NCCC National Convention is in Indianapolis Indiana next year and we need every members help to stay on
top. If we are going to continue to be the top points club in the nation – every club member should look at their
schedule and participate in as many sanctioned events as possible. We have sanctioned autocross events in
August and September here in Omaha – we have sanctioned drag racing in October – we have sanctioned
concours and people’s choice car shows and we have 21 sanctioned events for our Summer Festival. All
opportunities for everyone to generate the points needed to keep our National Championship string going. We
don’t want to stop at 13.
Let’s continue to show that the Cornhusker Corvette Club is a WINNER!
Your President
Kevin Reit

General Meeting Minutes July 18, 2019
FINAL
Ray Kennedy, Vice President, presided over the meeting in Kevin Reit’s absence..
The meeting began by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ray asked us to take a couple minutes of silence to honor Club Member Al Mossman who passed away
recently. He was a 30 year member of our Club, Ray made the following announcements:
1. The 2019 NCCC National Convention has come and gone. He wanted to know if anyone had any comments.
Kevin Reit will be bringing quite a few trophies back with him from the Convention for our members who could
not stay for the Awards Breakfast.
2. The Club picture will be taken on Sunday, August 18th at SAC Aerospace Museum at 5:00 p.m.. Most people will
want to get there a little bit early. We will want to wear the same color shirts – Kevin will get the word out
what color we should wear.
4. Motor Sports Park in Hastings has cancelled Track Day on August 26th due to scheduling with the Corvette
caravan that is coming across the U.S. from the West Coast on their way to Bowling Green.
5. Gary Brisbois, West Region RCD and Kathy Brisbois, National Parliamentarian, were introduced.
6. Jerry and Kathy Koraleski are still collecting non-perishable food items for the Stephens Center and Kathy
Brisbois is collecting toiletries for a women’s shelter
11. J B Benedict is still collecting newspapers for Hearts United for Animals.
Jan Richardson read the names of members with birthdays in July.
Carolyn Horst, Secretary, asked for a motion to accept the minutes from the June 2019 meeting. Kathy Gau made
a motion to approve the minutes and Sandy Swift seconded the motion.
Ray Kennedy, Vice President, had no report.
Jon Brown, Governor, reminded us if we are interested in running for a national office, the following positions will
be open: Vice President of Competition, Business Manager, Sergeant at Arms and Secretary. On September 14th,
there will be 7 sanctioned concourse events at Huber Chevrolet.
J B Benedict, Points Chairman, told us we are trailing by about 1,800 points out of first place in NCCC sanctioned
points. He had a list of activity points on the back table so Members can check to see how many points they have
earned. He thanked everyone for bringing newspapers for HUA. He gave us a media address for us to watch the
unveiling of the new C8 Corvette this evening.
Ray Kennedy and Kathy Brisbois explained the seven different classes in the Concourse Show at Huber Chevrolet
on September 14th. If you get 5 points for each event, you will earn 35 points. We can only receive points from
one car per person/couple if you bring more than one car. He encouraged the Club to come out to race when we
race at West Roads. You can also receive points for being a worker.

Jim Benedict reminded us there will be a seminar on judging a concourse at the Meet and Greet on July 23rd at
Smitty’s Garage.
Dave Williams told us that during a tour at the NCCC National Convention in Denver he met a gentleman from the
Oklahoma City club and they were talking about some of the glitches at the Denver Convention. He made a
statement that he had been to 30 or more conventions over the years and the Omaha National Convention was
the gold platinum convention.
Perry Dawes and Bob Edmundson, Social Director Co-Chairmen – Bob told us next weekend (7-27) is Vettes in the
Park at Okoboji, IA. We have 33 people and 18 cars signed up. On August 2nd and 3rd, there is the Clear Lake
Cruise and Car Show, with 20 people and 11 cars going. On Wednesday, August 21st we have been invited to have
a car show at Millard Days. There is a Meet & Greet on August 27th at Ragazzi’ s with a car show.
Don Angeroth, Competition Director, told us about an Honor Wall that is being built in Omaha to honor each
branch of service, first responders, law enforcement and includes the Presidential seal. The artist is Tom Warren.
This wall will be traveling around the country. The unveiling will be July 4, 2020 here in Omaha.
Don told us there will be racing at Hawkeye Downs on July 27th and
28th. There will be racing at West Roads on August 10th and 11th and
September 1st and 2nd during Summer Festival and on September
21st and 22nd. On September 28th and 29th, there will be racing at the
Lincoln Airport.
Chris Tooker, Treasurer, in the absence of Jayne Reit, Membership
Director, introduced new members Robert Grosse and Cindee Earl.
He told us he received a “Thank You” for our Club from NCCC for our
donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
He told us we are up $3,500 for the year. We have $1,250 due from
sponsors in July. We will be on track with our budgeted numbers when this money is received.
Ron Bockerman told us about how dominant CCC was in drag racing in 1980s and 1990s. There are currently 36
Cornhuskers who held a record or currently hold a record. None of the other clubs even come close to our
record. We now have Number 37 and 38, who are Chris Tooker’s parents, John and Patrice Tooker. We also have
Number 39 and 40, Ron’s kids, Will Bockerman and Katy Loecke, who set records at the Denver Convention. Ron
presented two trophies each from the Denver convention to Will and Katy for winning their class and setting a
record. Ron stated that our Club needs more of the younger generation to become members.
Jim Benedict told us we have the drag racing track at Onawa on Sunday, October
6th. The owner of the track is very welcoming
to our Club. We will have matching times,
record drags and bracket drags. We have to
wear long pants, shirt and closed toe shoes.
The track is 1/8 mile. We may open to cars
outside our Club.
Members at Large, Sharon Renshaw and Steve
Wright, had nothing to report.

Alice Williamson, Sharon Renshaw and Carolyn Horst made a
presentation of a quilt that was made by Alice and Sharon to Ron
Hernandez.
Howard Renshaw and Dave Ferguson, Summer Festival Directors –
Dave told us pre-registrations are due by next General Meeting for
the discounted rates. Gene Gau explained the three rallyes. The
rallye will begin at Lauritzen Gardens. Dave reminded us of
concourse judging instructions at the Meet and Greet at Smitty’s
Garage on Tuesday, July 23rd if you are interested in being a judge
for Summer Festival and other car shows. They will know more details next month.
Pete Fagan, Editor, thanked everyone who sent an article for inclusion in the Newsletter. He asked if everyone
had read the article from Mike Straub about his 48 state trip. He is looking for someone to take over the
Newsletter next year.
Ray told us that Kathy Brisbois received two ancient copies of Blue Bars that were black and white rather than
colored. There are two articles from two different Blue Bars. One states CCC was founded in 1960 and the other
Blue Bars article states CCC was founded in 1961. We prefer to go with 1960. Both articles state our Club was
founded by the Shriners. Palmer Sohl said this is not correct and that CCC was founded by two Air Force men. We
will talk to as many early Club members as we can and get this information straightened out and put in print in
our newsletter.
Ray Zimmerman drew Nick Maddalena’s name as the winner of a free
dinner at our next meeting for wearing his name badge.
Old Business – None
New Business - None
Ray thanked Candace and Shelly for their hospitality.
The Birthday winner for July was Paula Eble.
The Service One Gift Card to BP for $50 was presented by John Salmans to
George Horst.
The 50/50 winner was Sandy Swift in the amount of $131.00.
A motion was made to adjourn by Ray Zimmerman and seconded by Nick
Maddalena.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn A. Horst
Secretary

SUMMER FESTIVAL
Summer Festival for the Cornhusker Corvette Club dates back to 1969 and this year we celebrate 50 years of
Summer Festival Fun. My Dad, Gary Ferguson, and I joined in the club in the fall of 1996. My Dad’s first corvette
was a 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette and we shared his car while competing
in many Summer Festivals since then. Anita Poss and Trudy Benedict were the
Chairmen for our first Summer Festival in ‘96. The events that year included
concourse, rallyes, funkhana, low speed racing and drag racing.
Over the years, events have changed somewhat with fewer drag races and
more high-speed racing but no matter what, the club members have always
participated with great enthusiasm. In looking back to 2011, we did two days of
low speed racing at Warner Park. Come to think of it, I was also chairman that year and the high-speed races
were flooded out then too. I hope I’m not the route cause. This year we are bringing back events like concourse
and funkhana plus we added a banquet. Since this is such a special year, we made an effort to invite as many past
members that we can find from the early years of Summer Festival. I am told that many former members are
planning to attend, including the President of CCC from 1969. You won’t want to miss hearing some of the great
stories from these past members.
Howard and I am very much looking forward to seeing you all there and let us know if you have any questions.
Dave Ferguson
