Configure IIS(WEB Server) on WINDOWS SERVER 2003 or XP

Steps for configuring the WEB SERVER

• Install .net framework 3.5 sp1(for accessing dot net files)• IIS Installation• Create a virtual directories and place the website

contents in that.• Configure a Host Name or Domain Name with Static or

Dynamic IP.• Install DynDns Updater software (Not for Static IP) in the

system• Configure your Router or Firewall for port forwarding.• Access the Web Site from the WAN.

Install .net framework 3.5 SP1

• Follow the link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/confirmation.aspx?familyId=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displayLang=en

• Here you will get the set up of the same and then install it in the system

IIS Installation

• On the Start menu, click Control Panel. • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

• Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

• The Windows Components Wizard will appear. Check

Internet Information Services (IIS) and click on Details.

Select the check boxes for SMTP Service andWorld Wide Web Service, and then click OK.

Now IIS will Install (put the CD in CD ROM Drive if it asks,just click on Finish.

Open IIS

Create a Virtual Directory• Right click on Default Directory → click new → virtual

Directory

• Click Next

• Give the name to the Directory

Enter the Path of the directory which containsthe website contents.

Create a folder which will contains the contents

Apply permissions to the

Virtual directory.

Click on Finish

Now place the website contents in the virtual directory folder which you will find on the location C:\Inetpub or where you created that .Just go to the location by:-

Install .net framework 3.5 sp1

(for accessing dot net files)

Copy the following location where Microsoft.net framework is installed.

• Paste in run and hit enter

• Run the following command and hit Enter :-

Check the website on the localhost. By typing

http://localhost/tweet/index.aspx

The site is working on the LAN but not accessible globally from

the WEB SERVER.

So we need to do some more settings to make it accessible by

configuring a host name and Router or Firewall.

Configure a Free Host Name or Domain Name

with Static or Dynamic IPGo to the Website WWW.DYNDNS.COM then create your account or

follow the link:-

https://www.dyndns.com/account/services/hosts/add.html

Create a host name and fill the dynamic or static IP

After creating a host name check the all entries and save it.

Install DynDns Updater software

(Not for Static IP) in the systemThis software will update your dynamic ip with host name as

this will synchronize with the dyndns server.

Open the dyndns and enter the user name and password of

your account which you created in the dyndns.com website

• Now this will synchronize with the server dyndns.com and will update your dynamic IP to your host name.

• Check on these two host name you have and click ok.

Configure your Router or Firewall for port

ForwardingGo to the advanced setup option → NAT →Virtual Server

Click on hTTP_Server and mention the port number 80.

Fill the local IP address of the server in which IIS is installed and Click Save and finish.

This website will not be accessible from the same LAN. If you will try to access this will give the following error.

• Now go to the another LAN or WAN and access this website with you host name.

Its all done .Now you can run your website in local Web

Server which will be accessible Globally.
