• Complete the anticipation guide for “Text-Dependent Questions” prior to watching the video

• Complete the “after” for the anticipation guide

Anticipation Guides• May be used for at the start of a unit, before reading, or

prior to viewing a video.• Help cue students to important ideas and concepts.• Guides a student’s interaction with the text.• Activates prior knowledge.• One way to address misconceptions.

Text Annotation Symbols• Varying formats• Consider level of student• Encourage students to be systematic• It is much more than simple underlining/highlighting• Thinking out of box for non-alterable materials (like

textbooks)

Text Dependent Questions• Read the article “Text-Dependent Questions”• Using one of the annotation guides, annotate the text.

• eight pieces of cardstock• 14 graphic organizers

• The cardstock are the headings of categories.

• Sort the graphic organizers in to categories based on how you might use each one to organize text.

• Be ready to defend your choices!
