COMENIUS 2013/15:Newcastle meeting
Laura Salamó, Georgina Ducet, Aina Faro and Mar Serrat
INTRODUCTION
Four students of 2nd ESO went to Newcastle and participated in a Comenius project, with four other schools from Germany, France, Great Britain and Turkey.
We stayed in Newcastle for one week and we went in the Woodlawn School.
For this project we had to film a movie.
Before going to Newcastle in music class we learned to play the song “Bon dia” and we tauch this to the students in England.
It’s possible to watch it in Vil·la Romana’s web.
FIRST DAY
We got on a plane at 13:30 in Barcelona. After that, in Amsterdam we changed to another plane. At 16:40 we arrived to Newcastle, our families came to the airport to pick us up and then we went to each family’s house.
SECOND DAY
Early in the morning we visited Woodlawn School. Later, we took the bus and we
went to the Millenium Bridge.
There, we filmed a quick scene
where we were crossing the
bridge happily . Later, we recited
poems in front of the camera. In the afternoon, we taught how to sing “Bon Dia” to the other students and teachers.
SECOND DAY
After that, we went to the beach
and in front of a lighthouse we
sang “Bon Dia” all together.
After that, we returned to the
school and we had lunch at
12.30. Finally, at 15.30 we
went to each family’s house.
THIRD DAY
That day was a more relaxed day because we stayed in Woodlawn School with all the students. In the morning, we met all in the hall where we talked
for hours and also, we
learned how to play boccia,
(a game similar to “la
petanca”.
THIRD DAY
We laughed, told jokes, learned new languages…
Then, we had lunch. We stayed all next to others and we carried on talking and getting to know each other.
After that, the French students went to prepare the stuff for cooking pancakes. The rest of us stayed in the hall.
After a while, we went to
the school’s kitchen, where
the French students were
making pancakes.
THIRD DAY
THIRD DAY
We waited there for the pancakes, talking. When the fabulous pancakes were ready we ate Them. They were
delicious!
Later, we returned home.
FOURTH DAY
On Wednesday we went
to the Newcastle football
stadium (St James' Park).
There, a tour guide showed
us all the installations. On the grass, there were strange machines that, as the woman explained us, they dried the grass.
FOURTH DAY
Later, we returned to the
school, we had lunch and
the Turkish students
showed us how to dance
their traditional dance.
FIFTH DAYEarly in the morning the
teachers told us that that
day we were going to
record the typical Turkish
dance which they had
taught us the day before. We went to a water ferry where we recorded the Turkish dance. The Turkish students got dressed with their traditional clothes for the occasion. After that, we returned to the school.
FIFTH DAY
We had lunch in the school, as always, we talked with different people: German, French, British and Turkish. All we became a big family and that’s why we said “Hey brother/sister”. Later the teachers spared us to different classrooms to meet the Woodlawn students. That was our last day with our friends. :’(
FIFTH DAY
It was the time to say goodbye to the students and it was horrible because that thay, we created a big friendship. That was a sad moment but we promised ourselves that one day… we would see each other again!

First, we went visiting the famous Millenium Bridge and after that, we went to a museum, The Baltic. We visited all the exhibition about contemporaneous art and we liked it. Later, we visited the Sage Gateshead.
SIXTH DAY
After that, we went to an Italian restaurant. We ate pizzas, salad and pasta. It was delicious!
Later, we went to a shopping centre and we bought souvenirs for our families. Then, we returned to the hotel and a member of the staff of Woodlawn school took us to the airport. Finally, we arrived in Barcelona at 11:30. But the company lost Gloria’s suitcase and we had to wait until 12 o’clock and a man said: “Tomorrow your suitcase will be here”

REFLECTIONS {Georgina}
This trip was a fantastic experience. I stayed with the Wilson family; Moya, the grandmother, Astrid, the granddaughter and Pippin, the dog. Time with them was fantastic and I wish to be there again soon. The school was wonderful, all the people was friendly and gentle. The rest of the students:
French, German and Turkish were very nice and we made a big family. However, I’m planing exchanges with some of them soon.
English for me was easy to understand and my pronunciation made a big change as my vocabulary.
I wish to return there, meet friends again and all of that. And may be to retourn to sing with Astrid because she loved too.
REFLECTIONS [Mar]
This experience was fantastic, like a present.
I stayed with Foreman family Peter, the father; Anne, the mum (she works in Woodlawn school); Luke, the grandson; Alex and Martha, the little daughter. The family was lovely, funny and nice.
The school was great. The students were very friendly and happy with our visit. We met with French, German and Turkish students all of them were really nice, funny and friendly.
Firstable, was difficult for me to understand english, because people spoke very quickly, but gradually I got used to the language.
REFLECTIONS {aina}
This trip was excellent, fantastic and unforgettable.
I stayed with a wonderful family. There are 4. Sonya (mother and employee of the school), Ann (father), Freya (the big sister), Eren (the little sister) and for finally, Haimish (the hamster).
This family was very polite and likeable and I hope to see them again.
The school was surprising because this school was perfect. It was equipped with all necessary equipment for the disabled kids and the kids were glad for our visit.
Finally, we met some very nice people. There are the other students that we became good friends, especially with the French.
REFLECTIONS {Laura}I think this trip was an excellent experience that helped me to start being more
independent and not so shy. Actually, I think I would repeat it if I had the opportunity to go there again. Newcastle was a beautiful city with lots of original buildings, for example, a school was an UFO! I also enjoyed meeting people from other cultures very much.
In addition, the family I stayed with, was very kind, nice and funny. In that house we were 10: Nicola (the mother), Ken (the dad), Lilly (who was disable and 7 years old), Bailee (the youngest in the house, who was 6), Maddison (who was 8) and Drew (who was 12), 2 dogs, a cat, some fish and me; as you can see, we were a lot!. As I said before, they were all very kind. Somedays they took me to special places. On Monday we went to the bowling alley. On Wednesday we went shopping and on Thursday we went to a Chinese restaurant, it was delicious! They also gave me lots of presents and the girls made me a postcard for my birthday, I won’t forget them for sure. Actually, I miss them a lot.
