• As an ice age ends, temperature starts to rise before either carbon dioxide or methane. Cause: Milankovitch cycles.

• As ocean temperatures rises, its ability to absorb CO2 decreases. Then, CO2 begins to increase in the atmosphere.

• Methane hydrate in ocean floor sediments begins to melt, releasing CH4 into the ocean and then into the atmosphere.

• As more CO2 and CH4 are released into to the atmosphere, temperatures are driven upward in a positive feedback loop.
