1126 North Hazard AvenueLos Angeles, CA 90063

We chose this park because we live in the surrounding

community. We are also park visitors and see that this

park, like many others in Los Angeles, is neglected

because of the lack of funds from the city.

Why CTP?

Looking for a problemMay 15, 2012:-Spent the day at City Terrace Park to see what needed to be improved.-Noticed that there was a lack of trashcans in some areas and no “no littering” signs up anywhere.-Saw full trashcans, since there was parties being held.-Cleaned up.

First Step

Public Opinion – Surveying.

-Wanted to know if what we saw was really a problem or just a one day thing.

Petition

Stern MASS students & people who were at the park.

-Many people were not really aware that there was a littering problem until we pointed it out.

-A bit hesitant about the address.

-A lot of the people there had been visiting the park since they were young so they were very supportive.

Third Step

Meeting w park official

Alice Gonzales Department of Park & Recreation Superintendent Supervisor (323) 260- 2371

Fourth Step

-Had already sent a request for more trashcans, but she had not heard back or received anything.

-Survey showed that the community noticed the problem.

-Petition will show that people want more trashcans too

Why Does it matter?

4th continued…

Two clean up crews :- Adult crew who receive court referrals

(community service). - CTP park maintenance7am- 2pm.

- The crew tends to focus on collecting trash from the trash cans, not picking up stray trash from the ground.

-Improper use of trashcans

-There are about 300-500 people that visit City Terrace park each weekend. -The park is also visited by a great amount of people during weekdays for activities, sports, and recreation. - The park is 3.5 acres in size with an additional 600,000 cubic yards. - The park provides programs such as tutoring, computer club, gymnastics, basketball, wheel chair basket ball, adult basketball, Azteca, Ceramics, folklorico, Parenting classes, Senior Aerobics and many more.

-We visited during a typical weekend and encountered this amount of people.
