SUSTAINABILITY

IT ISN´T JUST

ENVIRONMENT

URBANSUSTAINABILITY

IS ABOUT WHERE PEOPLE LIVES

IS HERITAGE AND TRADITION

IS A PLACE FOR COMMERCE

IS WHERE FAMILIES MEET

IS ABOUT PEOPLE

CITIES ARE ALIVE, DAY

AND NIGHT

CITIES ARE

OPEN COMPLEXSYSTEMS

COMPLEX SYSTEMS ARE PERCEIVED AS A WHOLE

HERITAGE AND HISTORYcan teach and PROVE

THAT

A PARADIGMIS NEEDED

A PARADIGM

1. It has been alive during centuries in europe and america as a reference for the foundations of new cities

2. Was part of the collective thought

IS AN OPEN MODEL

Chinese cities need to DEAL with some additional and

very complex issues

SIZE

DENSITY&

SOIL

BUT

CITIZENS NOT ALWAYS LIKE TO LIVE IN

COMPACT CITIES WITH VERY HIGH SKYSCRAPERS, AWAY FROM THE

LAND,FRIENDS AND FAMILIES.

CHINESE Heritage and history, provide the answers for future challenges

1. The city is NOT an architecture project neither an environmental experiment.

CITIES

ARE a political and sociological paradigm which should focus on people .

2. A paradigm should be defined based on basic principles and leading to a frame legislation.

3. World Heritage cities, as well as historic cities, could serve as reference

4. The cultural DNA and identity should be identified and promoted.

By this the compromise and participation of the citizens will be reinforced.

5. The city should be designed developing the neighbourhood concept: common areas, local markets, multipurpose spaces where people can gather.

6. All citizens should be entitled to the same rights.

7. A regular non speculative housing market needs to be organized.

8. The state should provide entry level finance for people with the least resources.

Manhattan´s solutions are not right for China´s society

Chinese citizens have deep family roots and values

Manhattan´s solutions are not that of China´s societyAnd a strong sense of community

The street is a common and vibrant area where live takes place

Trade and houses have an intimate relationship

And Chinese society has a special liking to make life in society

And it has been like this as long as China´s milenary history

These are all part of an intangible value to be preserved
