INTRODUCTION

☺ RIVERS:-

A large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another river.

Rivers are the most important resources in the world in general and in India in particular. Rivers can be divided into two types:- ●PERENNIAL RIVERS ●NON-PERENNIAL RIVERS

☺ PERENNIAL RIVERS:- Perennial rivers are those rivers which exhibit a continuous flow of water throughout the year. They are shown with blue colour on the map. Ex: Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra.

☺ NON-PERENNIAL RIVERS:- Non-Perennial rivers are those rivers which have no flow for at least a part of the year. They are shown with black colour on the map. Ex: Mahanadi, Krishna, Narmada and Godavari.

☺ INDIAN RIVERS:-

☺ KRISHNA RIVER:- The Krishna river is the one of the longest rivers in India. It is almost 1300km long. It is the major source of irrigation for Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

☺ KAVERI RIVER:- Kaveri river is a large Indian river. It flows generally into South and East. It covers four states and a union territory such as: Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.

☺ MAHANADI RIVER:- The Mahanadi is a major river in East Central India. The river is 858km long. Mahanadi flows through the states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

INTERESTING FACT:- MAHANADI IS KNOWN AS DISTRESS OF ODHISHA BECAUSE IT CAUSED A

LOT OF FLOODS IN THE STATE. THE SITUATION HAS BROUGHT INTO

CONTROL BY BUILDING HIRAKUD DAM ON MAHANADI.

☺ INDUS RIVER:- The Indus river is the major south-flowing river in South-Asia. The total length of the river is 3,610km. The Indus is the most important supplier of water to Punjab and Sindh Plains.

INTERESTING FACT:- INDUS, JHELUM, RAVI AND

SATLUJ ARE THE RIVERS THAT ORGINATE IN INDIA AND FLOW INTO PAKISTAN.

☺ NARMADA RIVER:-

INTERESTING FACT:- RIVER NARMADA, TAPTI AND

SABARMATI FLOW FROM EAST TO WEST DIRECTION.

HOLY RIVERS GANGA, YAMUNA AND

SARASWATI MEET. IT IS LOCATED IN PRAYAG

RAJ, ALSO KNOWN AS THE SANGAM CITY.
