Purpose

These slides provide an overview of a service line for “Support to UN Country Teams with Strategic Planning & Visioning.”

The service line package has benefited from:

• The collaborative efforts of DGO, Staff College, the MCT, and the South Africa RSC

• Two pilot UNCT experiences (Malawi and Botswana)

A comprehensive package of presentation and session materials for this service line accompany this presentation

Models of support

1. Strategic Planning within UNDAF planning retreat

Thus far, three models for the provision of visioning & strategic planning support have been envisioned:

Different levels of consensus, stages of decision-making, and/or clarity in the guidance on how to move forward

1. Avoid a fractured response to UN Reform challenges2. Ensure that the strategic planning of the UNCT programming is

informed by capacity awareness and “reality checks” 3. Capitalize on the progress and momentum created by the UNCT

by strengthening the governance and work planning instruments
