IntroductionThe age of exploration

lasted from about 1418 to 1620

These daring voyages changed the history of the world.

New lands discovered- Portugal and Spain

lead the exploration.

What motivated them ?

1. Desire to find a new trade route to Asia.

Europeans were interested in Asian goods, especially spices.

Trade with east were difficult & expensive because Muslims & Italians hold the trade.

2. Desire to earn fame, Glory & Wealth.

As new lands discovered, Nations wanted to claim the land’s riches for themselves.

3. Desire to spread Christianity.

How did technologies help?

Advance in cartography.

Improved ship design & building.

New navigational tools- Compass & Astrolabe.

Improved weapons.

What were they looking for?
