How to Accomplish Your Career Goals In The New

Year Easier

Procrastination on setting goals is the biggest reason people do not reach their potential and happiness.

SET REALISTIC, SPECIFIC, AND MEASURABLE CAREER GOALS

You will need to have a vision, daily goals, strategic year plan, and use many of your characteristics.

Many studies have shown a direct correlation between setting specific career goals and finding greater success.

1

THE DEATHBED QUESTION

When envisioning yourself at the end of your life, what will you have wanted to accomplish?

2

REFLECT ON YOUR PAST CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS

Take some time to think back on the past year and what your job achievements were - write them down.

3

WHAT DO YOU VALUE IN YOUR CAREER AND PERSONAL LIFE?

In order to set lasting career goals, you need to know what’s important to you in life.

4

BE AMBITIOUS

You can’t expect to achieve great things if you don’t allow yourself to dream them.

5

SET GOALS THAT ARE SMART

SMART refers to goals that are specific, measureable, achievable, realistic, and time framed.

6

BE SPECIFIC

If the goal you set is too broad, it will be much harder for you to achieve it. It needs to be specific and descriptive.

7

UNDERSTAND YOUR MOTIVATION

You will more likely commit to your goal if you fully understand the purpose behind setting the goal in the first place.

8

BREAK YOUR CAREER OR PERSONAL GOALS DOWN

Your goal can be big, but break it down into manageable chunks to keep it from becoming overwhelming.

9

SHARE YOUR CAREER OR JOB GOALS

Once you share your goals with others, it will become more real.

10

MAKE A PLAN

Do you know what steps you’ll take to start the process?

11

ASSESS THE RISKS

Identify any obstacles that might get in your way of achieving your goals.

12

IDENTIFY YOUR RESOURCES

What courses, people, or websites, etc. can help you achieve your goal?

13

SET A REASONABLE TIME FRAME

Make your action plan even more formidable by setting it to a time-frame.

14

STAY MOTIVATED

Achieving your goal should be your motivation. It is the driving force that propels you forward.

15

STAY FOCUSED

Identify your priorities to help you spend your time wisely and on the right tasks.

16

HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE

Make sure to accomplish something every single day toward attaining your goal.

17

REWARD YOUR EFFORTS

When you’ve completed an action or step towards your goal, reward yourself.

18

EVALUATE AND FINE TUNE YOUR PROGRESS

It’s important to consistently check in with yourself to see how you are progressing.

19

GET YOURSELF A MENTOR OR ACCOUNTABILITY BUDDY

Enlist a mentor or friend to help keep you accountable to your goals.

20

Continuous procrastination, not only robs you of proper forward planning that you could be doing now.

It often also leads to rushed goal setting that you haven’t put much thought into.

This is why the best time to figure out your goals is right now.
