RecapThe MeansThe Three Jewels o The Buddhao The Dhammao The Sangha

Objective:

To learn what the Eightfold path is

BuddhismThe Human Condition – o The 3 Marks of Existenceo The 1st Noble Truth (Life is Dukkha)o The 2nd Noble Truth (Dukkha is caused by Tanha)

The Goals - o Karmao The 3rd Noble Truth (You can stop Dukkha by stoping Tanha) o NibbanaThe Means – o The Three Jewelso The Noble Eightfold Path / The 4th Noble Truth

The Noble Eightfold Path describes a way of escaping the suffering expressed by the first 3 Noble Truths.

It’s a practical set of instructions about how to deal with Tanha. They are supposed to cover all problems and possibilities in life.

Extreme ModerationThe basic idea of the Eightfold Path is to avoid extremes. It’s called ‘the middle way’ and means you should avoid having too much or too little of anything – instead you should have everything in moderation.

Too Little Too MuchJust Right

Take money for example. Too little makes life very hard, but too much brings problems. Maybe you spend all your time worrying about your money, or you might not know if you’re friends really like you for you.

You will now be given a set of different possible Noble Truths. You have to decide which eight are the real ones.
