Engagements
Congratulations on your engagement! Have you dreamed of your wedding day since you were a little girl? You must be so excited you found that soul mate to share the rest of your life with. Planning your future wedding can be exciting, challenging and very stressful. You are making the first impor-tant decision in your wedding planning process by purchasing Bride Unique wedding magazine.
Over the next few months you will spend many hours planning, gathering ideas and putting your wedding vision together. What is so fabulous about wedding is you don’t have to follow trends, seasons or popular colors. Your wedding should be a reflec-tion of you and your fiancée.
Whatever you may choose for your Dream Wedding please remember the most important detail in your planning is to breath, relax and have fun at your wedding
Wedding consultants should have plenty of questions for you , in an effort to determine your wishes, needs, level of maintenance, budget, scope of imagination, and more. You're both trying to assess each other and how well you'll work together. The consultant will probably initiate discussions -- take this time to consider man-ner, personality, confidence, warmth, whatever you're looking for from a traditional wedding to a cultural wedding.
Whomever you enlist, do not hire a consultant who doesn't want to listen, is bossy, tries to convince you of what's best for you, critiques your ideas, not sensitive to your needs if you are having a special cultural or unique wedding, has no references, and won't sign a written agreement.
To get started in hiring a planner for your event we have provide you a few questions to take to your consulta-tion.

Bride & Groom Quick Start Planner
Bride Unique Winter/Spring 2012 brideunique.com
Wedding BudgetEvery bride should set a budget before buying anything so that she knows what she has to work with. A budget is very important, especially if you are spending someone else's money (your parents, or possibly your fiancé's parents). Here is a basic list of what you should put in your budget and the average percentages of what brides spend in each section. To figure out your amounts just take your total budget and times it by the percentage listed. Example: $20,000 budget, Reception Location 9%, $20,000 x 9% (or 0.09) = $1,800. So, you should spend approximately $1,800 on your reception location. Ceremony Fee 2.5% Ceremony Decorations 1.5% Reception Location 9% Reception Decorations 4.5% Food and Service 33.5% Beverages and Bartender 9% Cake and Cutting Fee 3% Wedding Gown 6.5% Veil and/or Headpiece 1% Bridal Accessories 1% Hair and Make-up 0.5% Massage, waxing, facial, etc. 0.5% Bouquets/Boutonnieres 2% Band/DJ/Orchestra 6.5% Photographer 6.5% Videographer 5.5% Invitations 4% Car/Limo Rental 1.5% Wedding Favors 1.5% Obviously, everyone will have personal preference as to what they want to spend on different things. You'll need to go through the budget after you have calculated the amounts and figure out if you think any are too high, or too low. You can then spend accordingly!
For some cultural weddings, expect to spend a little more for multiple wedding day events, accessories and custom attire due to the beautiful cultural wedding traditions.

Beyond Traditional
Wedding Photography
1. What do you consider your photography style to be? The photographer captures events as they happen without a lot of posing. Some people prefer more traditional photographs where most of the photos taken are posed. Many photographers now combine both styles very well.
2. Do you shoot color, black and white, or both? Now with digital photography, everything can be shot in color and converted to black and white. Some people say that the artistry of the black and white photo is lost in the conversion. If black and white photography is important to you, make sure you love the finished product whether it is shot with film or digitally.
3. Do you bring an assistant or second photographer? Some wedding photographers will bring second shooters with them while others only bring someone to carry gear. Make sure you know which you are getting.
4. Do you work well with videographers?Videographer is an important part of preserving memories. Some photographers work well with them, others find them intrusive. If you want both a photographer and a videographer (which I highly recommend) make sure your photographer is aware and happy.
5. Do you correct your photos? They will take out imperfections, hide some wrinkles and blemishes, and maybe even get rid of a double chin. Find out if your photographer has that capability and if they charge extra for the service.
6. Will the photographer give you a high resolution CD of your images & rights? Some photographers will willingly hand over the rights to your photos so you can have copies printed at will, while others prefer you to purchase your reprints directly with them. Find out your potential photographer’s policy prior to signing a contract.
7. Are you willing to have input on the photos that we want? Some wedding photographers will gladly work with a shot list while others will not. If you have specific pho-tos that you want taken, make sure your photographer is happy to accommodate your requests.
8. Are you the actual photographer who will be shooting on my wedding day?If the answer is no, make sure you see your actual photographer’s work. You don’t want any surprises.
9. Are you familiar with my ceremony/reception site?If the answer is no, would he be willing to do a site visit to learn about the rules and to scout out the best photo locations?
10. What comes in my photography package? Photographers charge many different ways. Some charge a shooting fee and then give a credit towards an album others have a complete package that includes shooting time, photos and an album. When making com-parisons, make sure you know what you are getting.

1. Do you have some samples of your work I can see? Reference? Looking at samples of their work with give you a sense of their style and their range of work. Check for variety. The more variety you see, the ore likely you will get flowers that fit you, and not the same bouquet every bride gets. Seeing samples of their work can also give you a few ideas for your own wedding.
2. Can you make suggestions based on my color scheme? A good florist can make suggestions that will care out the theme and formality of your wedding. The florist should be able to provide several suggestions for not only your bouquet, but the corsages and ceremony and reception flowers. Don't be afraid to tell your florist if their first suggestion isn't what you had in mind. Letting them know while you are in the planning stages gives the opportunity to suggest something more appropriate for you. Bring a color swatch. 3. Can you keep within my budget? What cost-cutting suggestions can you offer? Most florists should be able to work within your budget. If you want something that will put you over your budget, they should be able to offer some alternatives to keep you within your range. For example if you want an out-of-season flower, they should be able to offer an in-season option that will give you a similar effect.
4. Can you coordinate all the personal flowers? Make sure that your florist can coordinate all the personal flowers (corsages and boutonnieres) to go with your other flowers (bouquets, ceremony and reception arrange-ments).
5. Are you familiar with my ceremony site or reception site? Familiarity with your site(s) will help your florist offer suggests that will best suit your site. If your florist has not worked at your site before, see if he/she will meet you there to review possible arrangements.
6. What rental items and other decorations do you offer? Many florists will also offer some rental items and decorations that you might also need, such as arches, candelabras and pew bows.
7. Is Delivery Included? If not, what is the cost? Not all florists will deliver your flowers. Make sure your does or your might be making an extra trip across town on your wedding day! Others will deliver for an additional charge; make sure you know about the charge.
8. Is setup of the flowers at the ceremony and reception sites included? Just because a florist delivers, doesn't mean that the florist will setup your arrangements at your site. Don't be caught short-handed on your wedding day. Make sure your florist includes setup or make sure you know if they don't so you can appoint some one that duty. 9. What deposit is required to reserve you? When is final payment due? If you find a florist you like, make sure you know what it takes to reserve them. Also make sure you know when the final payment is due and their cancellation policy. 10. Do you handle flower preservation? If you'd like to keep your flowers make sure your check on your flo-rist's ability to preserve your flowers.

1. Do you recommend a certain type of cake for an outdoor or seasonal reception? Yes. For an outdoor reception, especially during hot and humid summer months, I recommend that you use a Rolled Fondant Cake, because butter cream icing tends to melt in warmer weather. If your reception is indoors with air conditioning, a butter cream frosted cake will be just fine.
2. Can you custom create a cake from an invitation or idea? Yes. I love it when a client has an idea for their cake. It brings me a lot of joy to then take their idea and create the cake that they envisioned.
3. Can you match the cake colors to fabric swatches or flowers?
4. Can you create individual cakes to be used as favors? Another fun idea for receptions is to use a small cake as a centerpiece at each table. Before the guests leave, they can each take home a slice of the centerpiece cake as a favor. I can provide you with the cake favor boxes or cake favor bags at cost.
5. Do you offer a free tasting? Yes, I offer free personal consultations and tasting.
6. How far in advance must I book your services? Services are booked on a first-come, first served basis. Thus, it is best to book my services by making your $100.00 deposit, as soon as possible. That being said, do not hesitate to call me if you are in a "pinch" and need a last minute baker. Depending on the date, I may be able to help you.
7. Do you offer free delivery and set-up? If not, what is your fee?
8. Do you carry liability insurance? Most vendors carry a $1,000,000.00 liability insurance policy.
9. Can you create specialized cakes for certain dietary needs? Gluten-Free and/or Sugar Free cakes, cupcakes, and cut-out cookies. Gluten-Free cakes are moist, and most people cannot tell the difference between a "regular" cake and my Gluten-Free cakes.
10. Will you supply a cake box in which to freeze the top of the cake?Normally there is no additional charge.

Let The Music Play
Bride Unique Winter/Spring 2012 brideunique.com
Booking a reliable Disc Jockey is a very important decision for the success of your party #
1. Are you insured? Can you supply me with proof of liability? Many responsible business owners carry liability insurance to protect their businesses and the consumer. Many locations are beginning to require proof of liability. Ask for proof of liability insurance. Disc Jockey's receive a Certificate of Liability which can be used as proof. 2. Will you be willing to play requests and discuss music ahead of time? A versatile Disc Jockey is willing to listen to your suggestions, give you feedback and play from your desired song list. A professional Disc Jockey will also accept the fact you may not want certain songs played. A profes-sional Disc Jockey cannot know everything about your musical preferences and entertainment needs without communication. 3..Do you use Professional Equipment? A ask whether you’re prospective Disc Jockey works with professional audio equipment. Remember that pro-fessional gear does not guarantee an entertainer's talent or service level, but is simply a tool for building an exceptional event. 4. Do you provide backup equipment at my event? Although equipment failure is rare, do you really want your special occasion ruined because your Disc Jockey did not come prepared? It is also important to know if your Disc Jockey has a back-up plan in case of illness or an accident. 5. Does the Disc Jockey know the proper etiquette for your type of party? A professional Disc Jockey will assist you with the planning of your special day. Most professional entertain-ers will coordinate, emcee and provide the music that you desire. Ask if they have experience with your type of event. 6. How much time do you allow for set-up? Punctuality is a necessity. Most Disc Jockey's arrive at least one hour prior to the start time you've given them. Your entertainer should ideally be setup and in-place before your first guest walks through the door. 7. Do you provide a written contract? It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing. Ask for a written agreement, especially if you are paying an initial retainer. The standard initial payment for entertainment services is 50%. If you are expecting a specific entertainer, make sure you get it in writing as well. 8. Will you be suitably dressed for our occasion? Specify the type of apparel that your Disc Jockey is expected to wear for your occasion. Formal attire or coat & tie are the most popular forms of attire. If you are having a "theme" event, make sure your entertainer is in-formed. 9. Do you belong to a professional organization or trade group? Although belonging to an organization or trade group does not guarantee the talent or professionalism of a disc jockey, it may indicate the company’s willingness to network, learn and grow. Disc jockeys can learn through local chapter meetings, national DJ conventions and seminars geared toward the entertainment professional. 10. Disc Jockey rates vary based on talent, experience, emcee ability, service, coordination, equipment needed, music knowledge, mixing ability and personality. Rates for the DJ industry vary greatly, ranging from $350.00 to over $5,000.00 with an average of $1,200.00 for a 4 hour booking. The best price is not always the best deal, especially if you are planning a wedding. As a matter of fact, surveys conclude that nearly 100% of brides would have spent more money on their entertainment and made it their #1 priority in hindsight. A full-service disc jockey company will normally invest 12 to 30 hours to your special event but it may appear that you are only paying for "4 hours". Consultations, music purchasing & editing, preparation, set-up and tear-down, education and other business related endeavors add up to the overall success of your special occasion.
