Beverley DHS - fabulous staff, fabulous families, fabulous students
As I head down to Nannup for a stint in the cold, I would like to pay tribute to the wonderful teaching and non-teaching staff at Beverley District High School. I have taught and worked at many schools over the last 20 years, and none has had a more compassionate, dedicated and hard-working group of teachers, education assistants and support staff. Parents can feel confident that their children are in the hands of professionals who care about their children and want the very best for them.
I would also like to express my appreciation to the families of our students. We are lucky to have a supportive school community. Parents are very active in helping not only their own children, but all the children in the school, through volunteering in the canteen, in classrooms, at carnivals and special events and when classes go on camps and excursions. They also support the school through the positive messages they share in the community and on social media, and by interacting with staff in productive ways to build positive partnerships.
The role of the P&C is significant; it supports resources for the school as well as activities and events, and helps
bring the community and the school closer together. Thanks to the P&C committee and members for all they do.
Our school board is a very effective one, driving the school’s vision through planning and governance that ensures accountability and goal setting. Our current board, led by Chair Damien Murray, is set to begin developing the 2020 to 2022 business plan, with input from staff and parents. I encourage all our families to talk to Board members about the progress of this planning.
Lastly, I would like to pay tribute to the students at our school. As well as being the reason that the rest of us are here, the students are just fantastic: hard working, generally very respectful and caring, and very responsible future community members with ambitions that they are well on their way to achieving.
The incoming principal for the remainder of the year will be very pleased to be appointed to Beverley. Mrs Murray will be Principal from Monday 5 August while selection processes are underway. I wish the Beverley school community all the best for the remainder of 2019.

NAIDOC
NAIDOC celebrations were a big event on the school calendar this year! Thank you to Gemma, Donna, Janice and their team for all of their hard work in making this a very special day for our school community.
Vi Barham Award for Excellence 2019
Congratulations to the school’s two nominees for the Vi Barham Award for Excellence. The Vi Barham Award is a $2500 scholarship that has been running for 30 years.
The award is presented to a Year Six student of outstanding ability and achievement. Nominees come from schools across the Upper Great Southern Region. Students participate in testing and finalists take part in an interview process.
Mya and Oliver both work very hard and are committed to their studies. They are very worthy nominees for this award. We wish them well as they proceed to the next stage of this process, which involves sitting a set of academic tests.
Thank You Book Week 2019
We would like to thank the
Beverley Shire Council for generously collecting and delivering our recent fertiliser
order from Perth.

National Tree Day
To celebrate National Tree Day on Friday 26th July and to develop an awareness of conservation, students from 8 to 16 years planted 2560 seedlings in the George Street reserve to assist in the re-establishment of the natural bush cover of the river area. Thank you to Mrs Phyllis Facey and helpers for their organisation of the day.
