The Section Eleven Athletic Council , at its recentmeeting, adopted a recommendation of its PolicyCommittee relative to the selection of "at large" teamsfor the basketball, baseball and soccer tournaments.Heretofore , the sports chairmen have sat down with acommittee of coaches to make the selections. Wherethere are six leagues involved , such as basketball andbaseball , the policy has been to have the 1-2 teams ineach league compete in the championship tourney plusfour "at large " teams , teams supposedly selected atrandom from the six leagues because of their recordsthrough the season .

What the Policy Committee came up with was : Eachleague in June of each year is to select one or moreathletic directors , to serve one at a time , on thiscommittee . The Sports Chairman (of the currentsport) will be the chairman of the "At Large SelectionCommittee" and shall call his meeting during the finalweek of the season.

The Policy Committee also set the guidelines for theselection of the "at large" teams-on the basis of theirleague record , over-all record and "common op-ponent" record. The committee also charged the "AtLarge Selection Committee" with the chore of seedingteams for the tournaments.

Incidentally, balloting is now taking place by themember schools on the recommendations of theLeague Placement Committee. The recommendedplan keeps Brentwood and West Islip in League Oneand Bay Shore in League Two. Central Islip would dropto League Three with Connetquot , East Islip andHauppauge-four area schools-in League Three . Islipwould remain in League Four which undergoes drasticrevision and would become a 10-school league listingCentereach. Amityville , Kings Park , Port Jefferson ,Sayville. Riverhead , Bellport . Elwood . East Hamptonand Southampton . Note Centereach . It' s a split fromthe present Newfield High which is listed in LeagueThree.
