November WINNER IS:

in SE!
The Recycling Division just added a large
new piece of equipment to its lineup of
machinery! What is it? It’s called a double
ram baler that compresses material like
cardboard and plastic into a dense rectan-
gles that weighs in at approximately 1,500
pounds each. This new baler will help us
move over 7 million pounds of material
through our facility each month with ease.
We are currently processing and moving
about 4 million pounds of material per
month.
By adding this new baler, three new jobs
have been created. More important, it
was paid for by the City and County
through a grant called the Community De-
velopment Block Grant. These are monies
that are sent from the Federal Govern-
ment through the States to Counties and
Cities to improve infrastructure. In this
case, it improves our community’s ability
to divert recyclable material from the
landfill, so we stay true to our
mission to “build a stronger community.”
“It is really great to see this project finally
come to fruition after three long years of
planning,” said Mike Grover, Senior VP/
COO. “The Clients, Staff and Community
will all benefit from our latest addition.”
The crew photographed above have been
trained by a team from Sierra, who is the
manufacturer of the baler. Included in the
team are: Sergio Figueroa, Adrian Gomez,
Frank Baltazar, Andres Lopez, Augie Zavala,
Lucy Rios, Ray Creekbaum, Andres Baltazar
and Maria Hernandez.

Holiday Hack - DIY Money Saving Tip
Have a ton of pumpkins sitting around from Halloween?
Reuse them to make Snowmen!
How to do it: Clean and
dry your pumpkins thor-
oughly. Stack them up to
see which ones will give
you the look you like. You
may need to carefully cut
off any stems that get in
the way of stacking. I used

fresh hot clam chowder or chili and a wonderful performance by

a small knife and plyers. Paint 1-2 coats of any snow white
acrylic paint on your pumpkins and let them dry thoroughly.
Place the pumpkins on their sides in a bowl to paint the bot-
toms of the pumpkins. Stack your pumpkins 2-3 high and
paint buttons, eyes and mouth. Add a hat, a scarf, a nose or
whatever else you would like to finish your snowman! You
now have a snowman using your Halloween pumpkins! I
found straw hats at Michaels for 50% off . Other supplies can
be found at any dollar or craft store. Have fun!

Holiday Pinecone Cheeseball Recipe
Almonds resemble the bristles of a pine cone atop this delicious cream cheese ball of bacon and herbs. It's almost too cute to eat! Ingredients: 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened 1/2 C. light mayonnaise 5 strips of bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled 5 strips of bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled 1 tbsp. chopped green onion 1 tsp. chopped dill weed 1/8 tsp pepper 1 1/4 C. whole almonds, toasted Directions: Shape the cheese mixture into two small pinecones on serving plate. Starting at the narrow end, place almonds into the cheese on a slight angle, forming rows. Garnish with rosemary twigs to resemble pine needles. Serve with crackers.
DEAR REBA
Dear Reba,
I’m hosting a Christmas party at my house this year
and I’m afraid that someone might spill red wine on
my carpet. How do I remove red wine stains if this
happens?
Sincerely,
Scared Red
Dear Red,
We had that same exact problem with my second cousin
Betsy-May Beauregard. That dipsomaniacal woman would
splash her red wine all over the carpet! No matter what
method you choose, time is of the essence, and the first
thing you need to do is blot. Grab a clean white cloth
(towels and paper towels work just fine) and press the cloth
to the stain. Soak up as much of the red wine stain as you
can. Remember that your red wine spill isn’t Buddha’s Belly!
Rubbing it will not bring you luck, it will make it worse as it
can push the stain deeper in the carpets fiber.
Next you can use an over-the-counter red wine remover
like Wine Away or my favorite home remedy, White Wine!!
White wine helps neutralize red wine stains on carpeting.
Simply pour white wine on top of the red wine stain and
blot. This helps lift the red wine stain from the carpet and
helps prevent it from spreading. Has someone polished off
the white wine? Try plain vodka. Follow my tip and no
wine stain will prevent your carpet from matching your
drapes!
