DEAR REBA DEAR REBA: My husband’s family al-ways throws an annual post-Labor Day barbeque at their lovely home. Every year, I notice my sister-in-law shame-lessly wearing white! I was always told that it is improper to wear white after

Labor Day. Am I wrong?

Sincerely,

Color Me Confused

DEAR CONFUSED:

First off, let me say that no sensible woman wears white to a Barbeque — just think of the horrible staining that can occur! But in regards to your ques-tion: You are correct, wearing white after Labor Day is a big no-no. The only acceptable time to wear white is

from Easter to Labor Day.

Please submit your Questions for Reba

to: Jeremiah Heitman!

Spotlight ON SAFETY!

Congratulations to Jeremiah Heitman for get-

ting caught being Safe in July!

Reports tell us that Jeremiah was spotted clean-

ing up a pool of water caused by a leaking

sprinkler head on campus. We understand that

he cleaned up the water and notified mainte-

nance of the leak. This helped avoid a slip and

fall and helped avoid further damage to the

sprinkler head. Thank you Jeremiah! Who will

get caught being Safe next month? Submit your

sightings to Michelle in the front office or call

ext. 213 to make your report!

We hope you enjoy the BARC in-house newsletter.

This is your newsletter, so please feel free to submit

your wedding anniversaries, births, special personal

milestones or anything you’d like to share with your

friends and co-workers at BARC. Please submit all ma-

terials and photos to Michelle or Jeremiah anytime!

Melvin Hayes Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary as Fulltime

Employee with Nestle Dreyer’s

Melvin Hayes was the first BARC

Client in Kern County to be hired by

a local business, which took place 25

years ago in 1989. The Californian

covered this wonderful story then. In

2005, The Californian did a follow-

up story on Melvin’s progress as an

employee for Nestle Dreyer’s, shar-

ing how Melvin hadn’t missed a sin-

gle day of work in sixteen years. On

Tuesday, August 5th Melvin celebrat-

ed his 25th Anniversary with the Nes-

tle Dreyer’s organization and to this

date, continues to have perfect at-

tendance. Many of his co-workers

and several supervisors joined the cel-

ebration on Tuesday and shared

many kind words about what it was

like to work with Melvin and how he

has a special way of making everyone

smile. Congratulations Melvin! We

wish you many more years to come!

New Polishing Screen Takes BARC Recy-

cling To New Level!

As many of you may know, the introduction of the Polishing

Screen has doubled our throughput in the MRF. The most diffi-

cult commodity to sort is paper and the “The Polisher” has given

us the ability to focus on the rest of the recycling material, like

cans, bottles, cardboard and plastic. We are improving our effi-

ciency daily as we adjust to the increased volume and are hard

at work to make our goals a reality.

Thank you to all the Staff and Clients that helped get this incred-

ible machine operational! Your enthusiasm and willingness to

adapt has made the changeover much easier. Keep working

safely and let’s make The Bakersfield ARC the most successful

MRF in California!

BARC On the MOVE Video A Hit!

The BARC On the MOVE video was a hit with the STARS of the

production in August’s premier showing! Special thanks to Sam’s

Club and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream at East Hills Mall for their

donations for this special occasion. The BARC On the MOVE

video can be viewed on BARC’s YouTube channel or on BARC’s

website at www.barc-inc.org. Thanks to all of those who helped

make this special video come to fruition. BARC has a beautiful

story to share and we are excited that this video will be included

in the Foundation’s Capital Campaign effort.

For more information about the video, please contact Linda

Hartman or Valerie Soria in the Foundation at ext. 268 or 278.
