A is for AdventurelandAdventurerland is located in Des Moines. There is a water park called Kokomo Cove. . Many rides for every one I prefer the thrill rides.

B is for Black Hawk LakeBlack Hawk Lake is really interesting. It is the southern most glacial lake in the U.S.A. The founder is James Fletcher. Black Hawk Lake had many names before the current one some of those names were Boyer Lake, Walled Lake , and Wall lake. Every summer there is a carnival called Water Carnival. Water Carnival has rides, boat races, and mud volleyball.

C is for CattleThere is cattle all over Iowa. Although Iowa is a cow loving state the cows may not love us. There are about 20 people killed by cows in Iowa every year. Maybe cows would be safer if they were under 38 inches. There is such a thing at Billards miniature cattle. A fun fact about cows is it is better for them to eat corn than grass.

D IS FOR DONNA REED Donna Reed was born in Denison IA . As many Iowa girls did Donna was a farm girl . As she grew up Donna helped on the farm. As an adult Donna got her own TV

E is for EggsIowa produces many chicken eggs a year. Iowa produces 14.25 eggs every year. Iowa is also ranked number one in egg production in the whole country. There is more than 80 egg farms in Iowa.

F is for Fort Madison Fort Madison was an army fort to keep an eye on the Native Americans. This also the spot where Black Hawk had his first battle with the U.S. Many troops were harassed when they left the building.

G IS FOR GEODE The geode is Iowa's state rock. Many geodes are found in Keokuk. The nickname is Keokuk geodes.

H is for Hog FarmingHog farming has been in Iowa for many years. Iowa produces 26% of the nations hogs. Iowa also produces a lot corn and soybeans which is mostly what a hog eats. Hog farming has been a part Iowa since the beginning.

I is for Iowa state fair

The Iowa state fair is one of best fairs in the country . It is located in Des Monies. It has camp grounds , milking experience, and the amazing butter cow.The big boar is the biggest pig in Iowa and is shown at Iowa state fair.

J is for John WayneJohn Wayne was a movie star. He was born and raised in Iowa but when he got older he had to move to California for a rare lung condition. His real name is Marion Morrison.

K is for Knoxville RacewayKnoxville Raceway is the third largest outdoor stadium in Iowa. It is known as the sprint car capitol. It is located on the Marion county fair grounds.

L is for Living History Farms

Living History Farms is an educational museum based on early pioneer life. They have many things to do. They also have 3 early time mansions , some churches, and some farms.

M is for Mississippi RiverThe Mississippi river is the second longest river in the U.S.A. The name means father of the waters. The first European to see the river was Hernando De Soto.

N is for Native AmericansThere was 13,248 Native Americans still living in Iowa in 2009. Here is a chart of the tribes of Indians still living in Iowa.

O is for OkabojiOkaboji also know as Iowa’s great lakes is 6 glacier carved lakes. There is many fun activities to do there. Bridges Bay Resort is hotel with an indoor water park. Another thing to do is Arnolds park. Arnolds park is an amusement park with rollercoaster Ferris wheel and much more.

P is for Prairies0.1% of Iowa's original prairies remain. Many of them have been plowed over. Iowa once prairie covered land is been ruined.

Q is for Quad CitiesThe Quad Cities are the 5 cities of Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa and Rock island , Moline, and East Moline in Illinois. They were called the tri cities be for world war.

R is for RAGBRAIRAGBRAI stands for registers annual great bike ride across Iowa. RAGBRAI has a different route each year. The riders ride many miles each day.

S is for Sioux CitySioux City got its name by the Sioux Indians that lived there. Sioux City was on the Lewis and Clark trail. Sioux City also makes more popcorn then any other place in the U.S.

T is for Tornadoes

A small slit of Western Iowa is in tornado valley. Since 1950 there has been 5 F5s and 92 F4s in Iowa. In one F5 in 1968 there was 13 people killed.

U IS FOR UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

Many Iowans helped with the underground railroad. Here is a chart of jobs.

V IS FOR VILLISCA AXE MURDER HOUSE

For 12 people to stay over night in this “haunted” house is 400 dollars. Josiah Moore & his family & 2 over night guests were killed at this house. The mystery is still unsolved

W is for Wind PowerWind power in Iowa is growing quickly. Iowa is second largest wind power generator. In first is Texas which most people know is much bigger than Iowa.

X is for Xenia The Xenia cemetery has 14 damaged stones. Xenia is located in Dallas county. Xenia is in rural Iowa

Y is for YurtA yurt is a semi permanent tent. There is yurt camping in the McInstosh woods. Yurt camping is pretty cheap.

Z is for Zoo The Blank Park Zoo is located in Des Monies. There is a Red Panda. The zoo covers 49 acres.
