• Skills/personality: all about processes, client services, accuracy and speed. If you like deadlines, enjoy systems and to figure out how to streamline processes then this is for you.

• After that?: Director → MD

• Current recruitment: Dublin administers over $1 trillion worth of funds and has huge levels of recruitment. People with experience are highly sought after! Lots of fun for young people and good team spirit.

Asset Management – Fund/Portfolio Manager

1) Degree / Masters / PhD in finance/banking/maths

2) Junior equity analyst / junior fund manager – 2-4 years @ €27K – €30K (CFA)

3) Fund Manager @ €90K++ (buy side)

• Skills/personality: highly analytical but also client facing. Decision maker and high level of ethics. Lots of pressure.

• After that?: Head of Department

• Current recruitment: Very hard to get into this area. Experienced fund managers are always in demand and there are opportunities abroad too.

Treasury – Treasury Dealer

1) Degree / Masters in finance/banking/maths/business

2) Settlements / trade services administrator or junior trader – 1-2 years @ €27K

3) Junior Trader/Dealer – 1-2 years @ €30K-€45K (CFA)

4) Trader / Dealer @ €90K++

Treasury – Treasury Dealer

• Skills/personality: mathematical, enjoy looking at a screen all day. You can make a lot of money – and also loose a lot. You need to be thick skinned.

• After that?: Head of Department

• Current recruitment: Most trader roles look for experience (equity or treasury). Some junior dealer roles pop up each year and they usually go to mathematically strong grads or people with some trade support experience.

Operations – Head of Operations

1) Degree / Masters in business/finance

2) Funds/Treasury/Equity – settlements, admin, client services etc. 1-3 years @ €27K

3) Team lead → Manager – 3 years @ €40K-€60K

4) Senior Management – 6-8 years @ €60K - €70K

5) Head of Operations @ €80K – €100K +

• Skills/personality: It is about people and processes and client service. This is a role for an all-rounder and a good negotiator internally and externally. This role suits a strong project manager and organiser.

• After that?: MD

• Current recruitment: It is a buoyant market for all levels of operations. Senior ops managers are always in high demand – especially with good product exposure.

Lending – Credit Risk Manager

1) Degree / Masters in business/finance/quant

2) Junior loans administrator / credit analyst / junior risk analyst – 3years @ €27K – €45K

3) Credit analyst / risk analyst – 5 years @ €45K – 80K (CFA)

4) Credit Risk Manager @ €80K – 100K+

Lending – Credit Risk Manager

• Skills/personality: Highly analytical and interested in figures and systems and graphs. High profile internally, but not externally. People in this role tend to be articulate and well presented.

• After that?: Head of Risk

• Current recruitment: People with credit analysis skills are in high demand in both Irish and IFSC companies. Risk is a bit more specialised with not as many roles.

1) Degree in business/finance

2) Accounting exams – ACA, ACCA (audit) 4 years

• Skills/personality: Mathematical, process driven and a general interest in business. Vital part of the business and is usually seen as no2 in the business. Highly organised and well presented and a good communicator at all levels of seniority.

Interview

• First impressions counts!• Research the company before interview.• Practice your answers out loud the night before.• Ensure you look the part.• At interview you need to be able to back up your statements, like “I’m

very technical” or “I’m good with people”.• Be enthusiastic about the role you have applied for.• Always have a question prepared at the end.• Remember that the person interviewing you may not be very good at

it.• Be prepared to interview at the clients request, even if it does not suit

you.
