Library Highlights

English II Orientation The first few weeks of a new semester give us an opportunity to introduce sophomores to our facility and resources. Eleven English II classes visited the library during August. After learning about the policies and procedures of the library, students participated in a Scavenger Hunt that had them using the online catalog, our ebook collection, SC DISCUS, and our print resources.Bulldog Booklovers Club Meeting Aug. 29th 3:30-4:30 President, Allyson Vaughan; Vice-President, Sara Reiser; and Secretary Rachel ZickefooseTwenty-five students and the two co-sponsors attended this year’s first meeting. New members were welcomed and given an overview of our club. Mrs. Bullington introduced the books being discussed at our September meeting (Hold Still and Angry Management) and students then shared books they enjoyed reading over the summer. Finally, members were given the opportunity to check

out books from this year’s first shipment as well as books for next month’s meeting.American Revolution Scavenger Hunt Mrs. Atkins, Mrs. Bullington, and Mrs. Roberts (library intern) collaborated to modify an American Revolution Scavenger Hunt Mrs. Atkins had received in a summer graduate course. Questions focused on SC U.S. History standards. Students had to use both print and online library resources to complete their Scavenger Hunt.Literature Circles Mrs. Bullington and Mrs. DeLac collaborated the first week of school to create literature circles using library sets of popular YA titles. Students listened to six booktalks and chose the three titles that most interested them. Lit circles were created from the choices and students then read and discussed their assigned novel with their group. Students were excited about reading these novels and several came to the library to check out the second book in the series they had begun in their literature circle.
