I hope everyone has a great summer. The next newsletter will be October — deadline for articles is September 18.
From the OfficeSummertime is here.
Office will be closed July 4th and September 5th for the holidays.
Remember if you will be renting your home next season, the renters have to fill out an Application for Residency and be approved by management.
Another reminder for residents is about contract-ing outside companies for work to be done to your home. Please remember to read all contracts care-fully and fully understand them. Ask questions BEFORE signing — this could avoid any potential surprises or unexpected charges.
Kay Roskey
CondolencesOur condolences, prayers and love go out to the family and friends of Martha Chamberlain.
Thank You for your Kindness and SupportMy heartfelt thanks to all of you for your prayers, calls, cards and just being there follow-ing the death of my granddaughter. This is one of the worst tragedies to happen to my family.
On behalf of my daughter Pam and the rest of my family, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Notices
Thank YouWe received a call from Fran Flint on Friday night, April 29th that we had left our RV running and the lights were on. Even though I had called him thanked him for taking the time to help, I felt it equally important to say THANK YOU in writing.
We had been having problems with the RV batteries and we forgot that we had left it running to charge.
Thank you again, Fran, for being so helpful and let-ting us know.
In these days and times, it's great to know that people still care and look out for their fellow neighbors.
Have a great day.

VillagersGene Amacher resides at # 677 El Presidente Dr. next to his dear friend Judy Richards.
Gene was born in Indiana but he grew up in the midwest during the depression.
His father lost his job and was unable find another to put food on the table. The family moved in with his grandparents on a farm in Illinois.
By his high school years he realized that he would need to move to a bigger city to get a decent job. After high school he didn’t have the money to leave for a bigger city and better job so he held odd jobs and carousing, drinking and causing mayhem occu-pied his time. The fun ended when he was drafted into the Army. He was introduced to his wife Mary Jane through a mutual friend. He married her just after his 21st birthday and left to spend two years at Fort Bliss TX.
There they were in the early development of the missile program. They would explode WW2 V1 Buzz Bombs in the desert north of El Paso,Tx.
Gene attend Milwaukee School of Engineering and got his degree. He worked at NCR as a design engineer in Dayton, Ohio and was able to travel to Hong Kong and Switzerland for business but after 37 years with the company he had to choose between relocating to Atlanta or retirement. He chose retirement at age 62.
Gene and Mary had one child, a girl. Gene’s daugh-ter is now married and lives in Ohio with her family. They liked to travel and saw a lot of the U.S.A. Gene’s sister spent winters in Ft Myers.
After a particularly cold winter in Ohio the couple started looking for somewhere else to spend their winters. They were told about a new place in Arcadia.
Since they had already looked in Ft Myers and Sebring they decided to take a look at Arcadia
Village. Both were immediately hit with the feel-ing that “This was it.” That was in 1994. They spent summers in Paskala, Ohio and winters in Arcadia. Mary has since passed after 60 years of marriage. Gene continued to only spend winters in Arcadia but now he has decided to become a year round resident only traveling north to visit his two grand-children and one great grandchild.
You may see Gene riding in a golf cart with Judy Richards. They have known each other for many years but have since become close friends. Despite finding each others company enjoyable both agree that living in separate homes is best for both of them.

Close your eyes and picture yourself in London, England growing up during the Blitz bombing of WW2.
This was the life of Peter and Laura Clack who live at #449 Barcelona, London was in turmoil during their childhood.
Peter’s house was demolished by a bomb and Laura's home suffered constant shattered win-dows. They would enjoy time outside looking up in the sky and witnessing dog fights between the RAF and Luftwaffe. One nasty weapon was the V1 “doodlebug” which was a drone plane filled with explosives. When it ran out of gas it either went straight down or it glided for miles before destroy-ing anything it landed near.
Most people in the suburbs of London had indi-vidual air raid shelters dug into their backyards. Each night they would retreat into a 6ft x 4ft shelter for six people and try to sleep with bombing con-tinuing throughout the night only to wake to the new destruction war brought. After the war was over the only thing that changed in their lives was that they could sleep in their own beds, otherwise everything was still strictly rationed and housing was very scarce.
Laura and Peter met at a church youth social club.
At the time all English men were expected to do mandatory military service with no choice of ser-vice. Peter decided to volunteer so he could be in the RAF and be sent to officer training at Cranwell. Life was different then Laura says. If you wanted sex you got married. They were married in June 1951.
Laura’s father managed to get the couple two rooms in a 42-room house without electricity.
Laura says “It was really scary being the first one home to light the gas mantle.” Both graduated col-lege. Peter had a good job as an engineer and Laura found odd jobs including modeling.
Since they were the only ones that had a “house,” all their friends partied at their house. One night with the influence of some wine they all decided they should move to a better environment. They wanted to remain in the British empire so New Zealand and Australia were considered but the only place they could afford was Canada. As it turned out the Clacks were the only ones of their friends who found their way to Canada in a small ship, across the Atlantic in November and not knowing anyone when they got there. They landed in Quebec and had a 14 hour train ride to Toronto.
Laura got a temporary job as a teacher for a woman on maternity leave at a private girl's school. She says it was a horrible experience since she had no training as a teacher. Peter worked full time as an engineer as well as obtaining his Masters degree. He later earned his certification as a professional engineer. They settled in to have a family and had two daughters. Disaster happened when his com-pany had massive layoffs — 10,000 people were out of a job. Continued on next page.
14 The Arcadia Villager Summer 2016
The U.S. was actively seeking engineers and Peter accepted a job in Boston, Ma. They got their citizenship as soon as it was avail-able since Peter needed top secret clearance for his new job. While they were there they had a son. They ended up moving around the country due to Peter’s job. Laura would become a member of multiple women’s organizations including LWV, PTA, AAUW, and Newcomer's Club.
Before coming to Arcadia Village the Clacks wintered in a beautiful village in the mountains outside Guadalajara, Mexico. Their fam-ily said they were too old to stay outside the USA so they settled for a small home in the Village to spend a couple of months a year. Peter did it begrudgingly since it helped to ease Laura’s arthritis.
They always had their eye on the home across the street and they were able to eventually purchase it to move to a home with a view of Lake Patty. This is now their 10th year in the Village and this will be the 1st year as full timers.
The Clacks will also be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary in June. WOW!

Please Continue Collecting these Items!
Thank you all! If you have any questions on any of this please call or see me.1. Greeting Cards: Please note! I am asking
that you do not give me any Disney, American Greeting, or Hallmark cards because St. Jude's Ranch cannot use them. Remember I need the whole card and please no writing on the inside cover — they take the front picture and make a new card. If you have any question about this please see me. I feel this is a very worthy cause and a way to reuse the cards.
2. Box tops: You find these on all kinds of cereal boxes, cake boxes and many other items, I know
here in the park that there are people that already save these for people which is find, how-ever, if you have not been donating them, please consider donating to me.
3. Clean plastic grocery bags: These I take to the "Center for the Needy" and also the Habitat Re-store so I need a lot of them.
I really appreciate all of the bags that you drop off. I ask that you do not tie the bags to my door or rail. Please stack them back between my utility room and the corn stalk plant.
