The

The English Online team is made up of highly qualified ESL teachers and native language assistants led by the program Director professor Emerita

Bañados.

Language Assistants

Native speakers of English periodically work with us leading conversation classes and helping record some audiovisual

materials.

Multimedia, audiovisual and distance education technicians develop and implement the interactive materials written and designed by the EFL teachers

in the online platform.

Highly Qualified Technicians

Video Recordings

Technicians from our university TV channel film the videos for the online course led by EFL teachers.

Native speakers who have participated in the video and audio recordings come from different cities including Dublin, California, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas,

Michigan, Indiana, etc. providing a variety of English accents for linguistic input.

International Professors

Fulbright Scholars and experts have visited and made valuable contributions to the program.

The

Program …

Independent work

with the online software

Students are encouraged to develop their learning autonomy. They work at their own pace with the online software for about 5 hours a week. They

come from different majors such as engineering, chemistry, dentistry, law, journalism, business, medicine.

Face-to-face classes

with EFL teachers

Students enjoy taking part in different types of communicative situations during their face-to-face classes with their EFL

teachers/tutors.

Conversation classes with native speakers

Every week learnes have one hour session of interaction with native speakers, where they practice the language and learn

about the foreign culture through fun communication activities, games, and simulations.

Several students that come to UdeC to study Spanish become participants of the program global community. They share with students and collaborate with the program while they are on campus and continue

communicating through CMC when they leave to their hometowns.

Global community

Online and face-to-face assesment

Online tutoring for personalized feedback

Every week students submit course assignments to their personal online portfolio to be assessed by their tutors. They check marks and tutor

comments on a personal progress report.

Online Tutoring and personalized feedback

Every week students submit course assignments, which include recordings, to their personal online portfolio to be assessed by the tutors. They can check their grades and tutor comments on their

personal progress reports.

CMC tools used in the course

Students use discussion forum, voice chat, personal messages and message board functionalities to communicate with the

local and global course community.

Students intensively practice listening comprehension and speaking skills online through tasks which maximize opportunities to produce and

focus on output by means of specially created recording tools, which allow learners to interact with video characters and send their recordings

to their online portfolios to get feedback from their teacher/tutor.

L2 Input and Output

Students write a weekly online diary about their progress and impressions of how they are learning. They also register the vocabulary they learn in each lesson in their personal vocabulary book.
