There are four basic forces involved in flight…
What are they?
Thrust – the force pushing or pulling the plane forward by a propeller or a jet engine
Drag – the opposing force of the air resisting this motion
THRUST AND DRAG
A plane will only move forward if the force of the thrust exceeds the drag
Weight pulls the plane down to earth due to gravity
Lift opposes this force and allows a plane to get off the ground
WEIGHT AND LIFT
BERNOULLI PRINCIPLE
- Lift is caused by deflection of air over the wing
- Air goes faster over the top of the wing
- The faster a fluid moves, the lower the pressure
- The difference in pressure around the wing causes lift
