Adaptation of IOP by DLLE as tool for pursuing higher studies in Technological Institutes
Dr. Maya BhatMalhar ChaudhariSarvesh Patkar
Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology
What is IOP?
• IOP or Industry Oriented Project is an extension activity under Mumbai University’s DLLE
• Aims:– Practical Application of the Theoretical knowledge gained – Developing Projects that directly or indirectly help in
national growth– Making students industry ready
Why IOP?
• Research and Presentation – Key to excellence in any industry
• IOP gives platform for both by allocating 150 hours to a given project – 90 hrs on practical research and implementation– 60 hrs on preparing skit on the importance of IOP
Motivation : 10 marks grace on completion
VESIT adaptation of IOP• Familiarity with R&D environment
• IOP introduced in second year, where students are introduced to core topics of their branch. Thus IOP acts like a foundation and a step towards building research interest
• Better chances of involved candidates in getting employed by core companies or higher technical institutes
Journey of IOP
• Selection of candidates based on previous project experience
• Decision of Project – Intelligent Surveillance Quadrotor
• Planning steps of Project Development Lifecycle• Obstacle mitigation at every step
• Result = An first-hand extraordinary experience on Project Development
Planning• Division of Work:– Data collection related to the working of
Quadrotor– Data collection related to individual components
required in project– Building Computer simulation to test our model in
real time– Procuring samples for testing– Assembling of the individual components– Debugging
Data Collection
• Going through previous scholar articles on the topic by IEEE and other major institutes
• Use of Online Learning or Classes by EDX and UDACITY to learn about autonomous vehicles
• Individual Component learning by going through data sheets
Procuring Samples
• Visit to various electronics hubs and stores across the city to study and compare pricing of the components
• Decision to work on a single rotor based UAV first
• Support by NGO TechShiksha which provided a spare RC Helicopter for our study
Skills Developed
• Working on IOP has helped us improve our time and work management skills
• Practice of maintaining regular work logs as a part of our project
• Development of Interpersonal skills while visiting and talking to the various vendors as well as experts in the field
Surveillance Quadrotor
What is a Quadrotor?• A multirotor copter propelled by 4 rotors.
• Controlled by altering the pitch and/or rotation rate of one or more rotor discs.
• Electronic sensors and electronic control system for stability.
Motion Control: Propeller Rotation
Online tools • eCalc- the online RC Calculator on the Web
• FlightGear- a sophisticated and open flight simulator framework
Components
• Brushless DC motors
• Propellers
• Batteries
Components
• Arduino Board
• Frame
How will it help the nation ?
• Major Application : Military for spying and anti terrorism
• Social Applications:
1. Natural Calamities Relief purposes2. Chemical Industries
Acknowledgements
• Dr. Maya Bhat , who coordinated our activities.
