Accepting- Embracing each offer made by other players to advance the scene.

Advancing- The process of moving a scene forward.

Beat- A unit of action in a scene.

Blocking- Negating another players' offers.

Denying- Not committing to an offer or a created reality within a scene.

Dive- Purposefully/purposely/intentionally get yourself called out to make your scene partner look better.

Edit- An edit is the act of interrupting or ending a scene to further the action.

Freeze- To stop talking, physically stop moving and hold the pose.

Give and Take- The back and forth of dialogue & action in a scene.

Improvisation(Improv/Impro)- The process of creating and performing something without any preparation or script to follow. (American slang/Non-American slang)

Justifying- Finding a solution for every offer and every element introduced in the scene.

Long Form- Category of improvised theater, in which a long play or series of related scenes is improvised.

Offer- Any action or dialogue that may advance a scene.

Raising the Stakes- To intensify a character, emotion or situation so as to make the action more interesting.

Running Gag- Recycling a situation or character from a previously played scene. Can be funny but if used sparingly.

Short Form- Style of improvised theater in which short and typically unrelated scenes are played.

Talking Heads- A scene in which there is little action, and in which the characters mainly talk: AVOID THIS... It’s BAD

Transaction Scene- A transaction scene is a scene in which nothing happens but a simple transaction. These scenes are rarely necessary and can be boring.

Waffling- Postponing by lack of ideas. This is BAD and BORING!

“Yes and…”- Common method of advancing scenes: accept everything said/done and build upon it.
