A Single Digital Presence for Public Libraries
Digital Group Workshop
SCL Seminar, May 2012
Background
• OCLC working with TCR to deliver a National Catalogue (WorldCat Local)– wanted more than Find-a-Book ‘to drive traffic’
• SCL Digital Promise– wanted a ‘single poc’ for partners and customers &
potential customers
• Home for Digital Reading/Promo & Info. ‘Offers’• ACE support & leadership of steering group • SCL working with ACE, TRA, TCT, TCR, &
OCLC to deliver (in phases)…
• an online library ‘portal’ – at a UK or ‘home nations’ level
• The equivalent of JLP ‘click & collect’, library content discovery and use
• Access to :– e-membership – e-reading – e-referring & – e-enquiring – with an overlay of neutral, independent, space for
discussion or co-creation using quality assured information
• Driving footfall to local libraries
DRAFT Visuals for COMMENT
• Only ‘first’ attempts
• Based on a specification ‘grown’ by the Steering Group
• Developed by HROC
• Funded by OCLC & TCR
• Open to Change…
…without tending towards the Camel
Questions to Consider
– What would customers expect to see when they visit the site?
– Any other options that need to be included?– What detail should sit below each of the
options on the site?– how should it underpin the delivery of the
other ‘offers’? (& if time…) – which services should be in which phase of
delivery?
