LutherEugene“Gene”DunngrewupinBrownandDoniphanCounties,andgraduatedfromWhiteCloudHighSchoolatage16.HejoinedtheNavyinJanuary1944,andtrainedatFarragutNavalTrainingStationinIdaho.HeservedonaLandingShip,Tank(LST),ortanklandingship.AnLSTisthenavaldesignationforshipsbuiltduringWorldWarIItosupportamphibiousoperationsbycarryingtanks,vehicles,cargo,andlandingtroopsdirectlyontoshorewithnodocksorpiers.
