Celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s visit to Troy with supper by candlelight in the Tenant-Baker House on the courthouse square in Troy. Enjoy live music by Terry Heineken from Doniphan. Members are asked to bring a soup (we’ll keep them hot on the wood-burning cookstove) or some cookies for dessert. Free will donation. DECEMBER 11 6:00 SAVE THE DATE! The Christmas party will be on December 11 at the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church. Food will be catered by Judy Allen (Cost is $10. Menu to be decided). Bring a small gift (ladies bring a ladies’ gift and gentlemen bring a gentlemen’s gift) for a fun gift exchange. A Kansan in the South Pacific during WWII Deborah Gregory of Bendena will give a presentation about her father’s service in the South Pacific during WWII at the Highland Christian Church at 6:00 on November 16. Luther Eugene “Gene” Dunn grew up in Brown and Doniphan Counties, and graduated from White Cloud High School at age 16. He joined the Navy in January 1944, and trained at Farragut Naval Training Station in Idaho. He served on a Landing Ship, Tank (LST), or tank landing ship. An LST is the naval designation for ships built during World War II to support amphibious operations by carrying tanks, vehicles, cargo, and landing troops directly onto shore with no docks or piers. Refreshments will be served by Mary Johnson and Gordon Murphy.
