PIECEWISE FUNCTIONS
Piecewise functions are functions that are made up of different functions on parts of a domain.
Ex.3 Graph f(x) = – x if x < 0
– x + 2 if x ≥ 0
State the domain and range.
Ex.4 The function 3x if 0 ≤ x < 1 3 if 1 ≤ x < 1.5 2x if x ≥ 1.5
models a hiker’s distance in miles from the start of a trail x hours after she begins hiking. Graph the function, and then interpret each piece of the function.
