What will we cover this trimester?

• Personal health and wellness– Physical health including healthy eating, visiting

health professionals when needed, hygiene, wearing protective gear, and getting enough sleep

– Mental/emotional health including interpreting feelings, thoughts, and emotions and learning how to achieve healthy thinking

– Social health including how to relate to people at home, school, and everywhere in the world.

Tobacco

• What is tobacco?• Forms of tobacco• Cigarettes, cigars, pipes• Electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco• Health risks of tobacco• Tobacco addition• What this costs to society• Saying “no”

Respiratory System

• What is the respiratory system?• Basic anatomy of the system• How we breathe• Problems affecting the respiratory system

Nutrition

• Nutrients the body needs• Creating a healthy eating plan• Managing weight• Body image and eating disorders

Muscular/Skeletal System

• Basic anatomy of skeletal system-why it’s important

• Basic anatomy of the muscular system-what is its purpose? Types of muscles, how they work together

FLASH-HIV/AIDS

• Understanding puberty• Anatomy of reproductive systems• State mandated education on HIV/AIDS• Are materials are available at our district office

Internet Safety and Bullying

• What is it?• How does one stay safe on the Internet?• What is bullying? • What can one do if being bullied?

Grading

• Typically, there will be no homework unless student was absent or has not used class time wisely

• Tests, classwork including worksheets and short essays, and group projects

• Participation in light exercise such as a brief walk around campus to encourage movement throughout the day
