Introduction

English has become a global language, spoken by approximately 40% of the world’s population as a first

or second language. Hundreds of millions of people are learning English, which is the global language for

business, technology, tourism and education. But how did English become a global language? And how has the spread of English influenced English language teaching and learning around the world. I’ll be addressing these questions in my presentation, and I’ll also consider the

future of English and other languages.
