Capture the Heart of America Photo Contest
Entries are now being accepted for Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area's (SSNHA) annual Capture the Heart of America Photo Contest. From day-to-day life on the family farm to the ever-changing agricultural industry, agriculture has proven to be one of America's most compelling stories. Through the contest, pho-tographers from across the country can share their own piece of this important story as they see it through their camera lens. Photos may be taken anywhere in the United States of America, except for one category dedicated to SSNHA Partner Sites. There is an entry limit of five photos per contestant and an entry fee of $5 per photo. Contest entries are due by October 28, 2015. For online entry form and complete contest rules/guidelines, visit www.silosandsmokestacks.org/photo-contest. Please email photocon-test@silosandsmokestacks.org or call 319-234-4567 for additional information about the photo contest. The Capture the Heart of America Photo Contest is sponsored in part by Solon Andreas Foundation and CyberLink.

National 4-H Week, October 4-10 Looking for ideas to celebrate National 4-H Week - here are some great suggestions for your members or your club. Host a Food Drive, Promote 4-H in a local business, Write "Any Hero" letters thanking our service people. (If you know a local service member write them a thank you note. We will be doing this at the Halloween Hike.)
Make cookies or other treats and deliver them to local businesses to thank them for supporting 4-H.
Ask your school if you may make daily announcements about all the things kids can do in 4-H.
Send a news article to your local newspaper inviting others to join your 4-H club be sure to give them details of who and how to connect with your club leaders.
Wear a 4-H T-shirt to school every day, invite a friend to 4-H.
There are lots of ideas - plan NOW to make National 4-H Week a week to remember and to celebrate and share all the good things that happen in 4-H.
