2019 UNITED WAY
LEADERSHIP GIVING PROGRAM

dfsd
Leaders are everyday people who believe in the work of United Way. They recognize the issues in our community that are unignorable and are motivated to help make a change.
Leaders take action by giving gifts of $1,200 or more. They know lasting and positive change is possible and our community is strongest and healthiest when everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Their generosity changes lives.
WHO ARE UNITED WAY
LEADERS?
Hanif Hemani
Gordon GrahamCo-Chair, 2018 Annual Fundraising CabinetVice President Mining, EngComp
Many individuals and families in our community struggle each and every day. We are inspired to help make a difference in the lives of our fellow citizens; it is a privileged and sits at the core of the values we share. We are driven by Albert Einstein’s sentiment that if every person who is capable of doing so would aspire to put back into our community at least the equivalent of what they have taken out, our vision in creating true possibility and changing lives would be achieved.”
Co-Chair, 2018 Annual Fundraising Cabinet,Managing Director,Express Employment Professionals
“
United Way works year round to invest time, knowledge and resources to support and improve the lives of our community’s most vulnerable people; the children, families and individuals who are often ignored.
We participate in capacity-building initiatives, research, collaborative projects, education and training, and facilitated strategic partnerships in order to solve unignorable issues.
Thank you to all donors and volunteers for making these investments possible.
UNITED WAY INVESTS IN CHILDREN
AND FAMILIES
An act of local love can take many forms. It might be as simple as a wave hello or as exciting as an office group volunteering for a community Day of Caring project. At United Way we are committed to channeling local love in all we do, so that together we can change lives.
Our goal is for the community to be measurably better off as a result of our work and the work of our partners. Your support of United Way provides opportunities by investing in local programs, services and initiatives that positively impact the lives of vulnerable children, youth and their families so they have the means to thrive as strong citizens in our community.

When we donate to United Way, we are able to support a wide range of programs that help build a stronger community by changing people’s lives.”
“
Deb Davies & Elwood AngelstadSenior Fire Fighter, Saskatoon Fire Department
As a family it is very important to us that vulnerable families and individuals in our community have access to resources and programs when they are ready for a hand up. Each of us has an obligation to give back and United Way provides the means to help build stronger communities, move people from poverty to possibility and help children be all they can be.”
“
• United Way helps kids be all that they can be by focusing on a child’s preparation for kindergarten; achievement of grade level reading and a confident journey toward independence.
• United Way builds strong communities by supporting positive mental health initiatives; creating a barrier free path to services and connecting people to their community.
• United Way moves people from poverty to possibility by ensuring basic human needs are met, individuals attain stable housing and families have a safe place to call home.
FOCUSAREAS
United Way Leaders choose to act because they want to help families move from poverty to healthy and sustainable situations; our community to work together to thrive and to provide children and youth with the means to become successful adults.
In 2018, 595 Leadership donors contributed a total of $1,546,841.
100% of donations to United Way of Saskatoon and Area stay in our community because we know our community is strongest when everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
THANK YOU
Paul Meinema and Myra PotterNational President, United Food & Commercial Workers Union
We support United Way because all of us need help at different times in our lives. United Way invests in programs and services that meet peoples’ immediate needs while looking at long term solutions to complex social issues. The partnership between United Way and the Labour movement creates a force for positive change in Saskatoon and in communities across the country.”

WAYS TO GIVE
Many United Way leadership donors make personal donations or make use of the payroll deduction option through their employers, but there are other ways to be a community Leader.
DONATIONS OF LISTED SECURITIES
Take advantage of greater tax saving opportunities while creating positive change in our community.
By donating publicly traded shares to United Way, you will not pay any capital gains tax normally associated with such a disposition. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares but are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income.
THE TOMORROW FUND
By making a gift to The Tomorrow Fund, a donor can ensure a gift will continue in perpetuity. The gift is invested wisely, professionally managed, and indexed into inflation to ensure the real value of the capital is maintained. The annual income generated in excess of the amount capitalized for inflation is used by United Way to support innovative and effective community programs.are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do
not need to take any capital gain into income.
PLANNED GIVING OPTIONS
A Planned Gift is a personal matter – a thoughtful commitment to the future. Many donors are interested in making sure their support continues into the future. Planned gifts are often made from assets accumulated with care over many years.
United Way is able to help you achieve your charitable objectives. You may be surprised at how simple it is to make a substantial gift with flexible giving options such as:
• A bequest in your will;• A gift of life insurance;• A gift of cash, securities, or property;• A gift in the form of residual interest;• A commemorative gift
• Donations to charity are deducted directly from your taxes in the form of a credit applied against taxes payable.
• This charitable tax credit reduces the amount of federal and provincial tax you may pay in the according year.
CHARITABLE TAX CREDITS IN
SASKATCHEWAN
• Regardless of personal income, donations of equal size are credited equally.
• The system rewards extra giving; the more you donate, the larger your tax credit.
WHILE YOUR DONATION IS HELPING OTHERS, LET THE TAX SAVINGS HELP YOU…
