AIM
ASAN MEMORIAL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
The Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science and Asan Institute of Management ( A unit of
Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science) is governed by the Asan Memorial Association.
The Association was established in 1965 as a tribute to the memory of Mahakavi Kumaran
Asan, the late poet Laureate of Kerala.
Asan Institute of Management (AIM) was established in the year 1997, in recognition
of the vital need to develop competent managers and IT professionals to meet the growing
needs of the country. The full time MBA & MCA programmes offered at this Institute are
affiliated to the University of Madras, approved by AICTE.
The Institute facilitates the aspirant leaders and IT professionals to mould them as
good decision makers, problem solvers and smart skilled consultants by exposing them to the

Distinguished Chief Guest Dr.VEERAMANI, DEAN ACADEMIC
COUNCIL UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS, Dignitaries on and off the Dias, Dear
faculty, students, ladies and gentlemen.
I deem it a great privilege to present the Eighteenth Annual report of
Asan Institute of Management. Our Institute was established in 1997 and has
created a unique identity because of its quality education and environment.
Asan Institute of Management continues to be one of the premier Institute
in Chennai through its standardized educational programmes. The institute has
acquired credentials in talent management, knowledge acquisition, innovative
teaching methods etc.
Our students are well placed in on and off campus interviews. Our alumni
are well placed in and outside India. A good number of them become successful
entrepreneurs also.
The students from AIM always excelled in academics and it is
continuously proved by their university results. Majority of the students passed
out with first class and distinction.
It‟s my pleasure to share with this august gathering that AIM is ranked as
one of the top premier institutes in India, in the survey conducted by Digital
Learning magazine with a grading of AA+.
I wish to congratulate all the MBA and MCA students for their excellent
performance and I wish to place on record my sincere appreciation and thanks
to the faculty members for their earnest efforts in training and developing the
students.
The activities of Asan Institute of Management is planned in such a way
as to bring out curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular talents of the
students and help them to excel in it. I would like to highlight the activities at
Asan Institute of Management in the academic year 2014-2015.

MOU WITH KCIG
To facilitate the students to have practical knowledge on Industry/Corporate
practices, an MOU was signed with KCIG (Knowledge Capital Investment
Group) A team of Veteran Industrial experts as Directors. AIM organized a
series of Guest Lectures and number of workshop in association with KCIG.
INDUCTION PROGRAMME:
A three days induction programme was organized for the aspiring managers
2014-16 batch between 20th
August 2014 and 22nd
August 2014. The induction
programme sessions were handled by a (Brief) highly experienced Industrial
professional like Mr.Chinnasamy Ganesan, Ms.Narmada Chandrasekar,
Mr.S.Ram, Mr.J.R.S.Reddy, Mr.V.Ramani, Mr.J.Raghunathan & Mr.
Chandrasekar. This program gave the aspiring managers an outline on the
existing corporate scenario and the expectations of industry from the MBA
graduates.
VALUE ADDED PROGRAMME:
In addition to the academics in Association with KCIG AIM offer Value Added
Programme on the emerging fields for our MBA students from the academic
year 2014-15. Social Enterprise and Digital Marketing are the courses with
which we started with.
TRAINING AND PLACEMENTS:
We assure 100% placement support to the students and put all efforts to make
them employable. Special courses were designed and workshops were
conducted to enhance their employability skills. To list out a few:
Final year MCA and MBA students attended a two days Personality
Development programme by Mr.Sudhir, Corporate trainer in the first week of
August 2014.
A 20 Hrs Programme on “Employability Skills” was conducted for II MBA
student‟s between10th to 17
th August 2014. The sessions were coordinated by
Academy for Career Excellence, Chennai.
“30 days Challenges” – a One day Workshop was conducted for I & II
MBA students by Mr. Neil Prem, Trainer and Professional Coach from
Cambridge, UK on 27th & 28th August, 2014.

Mr. Kamaljith, Trainer & Leadership Coach conducted “Smart U”
programme for MBA students on 13th
September 2014.
8 students from III MCA participated in the placement programme organized
by Rotaract Club, Chennai on 15.10.2014.
A 20 Hrs programme on presentation skills was organized for the I MBA
students from 12th
march 2015.
An awareness talk on Career Opportunities in the Banking Sector by
Mr. S. Sundar Raman, Chief Executive, B-FIT, Chennai on 25th August
2014.
INVITED TALKS
A series of lectures were arranged with professionally qualified and well
experienced speakers. Speakers from the industry, academics and other service
sectors were invited to address the students and share their experience. To name

lecture on “Strategic Management” on 9th

Mr. V. Ramani, Director, Finance, Tamilnadu Petro Products conducted a
session on “HR Practices in Indian Industries” on 11th October 2014.
Seminar on "Oracle Applications" was conducted by Mr. Prakash Mohan,
Senior Administrator, Wipro Limited on 28th
January2015.
Mr. Ranganathan, HR & Legal Consultant addressed the students on Labour
law – issues and procedures in the last week of January 2015.
An awareness talk on NSE Certification courses was given by Mr.
Jayaprakash of FINVISOR on 10th
Feb 2015.
A Guest lecture on “FOREX” was given by Mr. Ramani, Director, SATTVA
Logistics Group on 12th
Feb 2015.
A session on „5S concepts‟ was conducted by Mr. K. Babu, Manager
Production (Rtd), Rane Engine Valves Ltd, Chennai on 13th Feb 2015.

A motivating session - “In pursuit of Excellence" was handled by
Mr. Kumaran Surendran, Associate Vice President, Cognizant
Technologies, Chennai on 20th Feb2015.
Mr. Ramani, Director, SATTVA Logistics Group has addressed the students
on “FOREX‟ and „INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS” ON 12TH
Feb and
12th March 2015 respectively.
AIM parliment, students of I MBA organized a session on “Budget analysis
2015” on 13th
march 2015 in the presence of Mr.Vijayraghavan, IBM,
CHENNAI.
MAGMA –MEGA MANAGEMENT EVENT 2015.
To gain rich experience in event management, A Two days Management Fest
was organised on 7th
& 8th Jan 2015. Dr. S. Venkatraman,Ph.D., Vice President
(Education & Training), The India Cements Ltd, Chennai inaugurate the meet.
Placement brochure & Cognizance magazine were released during the
session.
Valedictory Address was given by Ms. Rajshree Natarajan, Chief
Operating Officer, Cognizant Foundation, Chennai. Mr. Ravishankar Executive
Vice Prisident, Sundaram Motors,Chennai, graced the occasion as Guest of
honour. 470 students from 24 colleges have participated. Winners of various
events were awarded cash prize and RKM Vivekananda College won the
Overall Championship.
WORKSHOPS
To gain working knowledge on the functional areas of their specialization,
number of workshops were arranged. These workshops were planned in a way
to impart knowledge management and intellectual skills to facilitate the
students. To inspire and motivate the budding professionals, successful
corporate teams were invited who enlighten the students with their valuable
insights.
“30 days Challenges” – a One day Workshop was conducted for I & II
MBA students by Mr. Neil Prem, Trainer and Professional Coach from
Cambridge, UK on 27th & 28th August, 2014.

“Marketing Manejo” – a one day workshop on Marketing was conducted on
19th September 2014. It was inaugurated byMr. V.K. Srinivasan,Technical
Director, ORACLE
Technical session on “selling Skills” was handled by Mr.Satish
Ramanathaan, Regional Sales Manager, Panasonic smart Phone, Chennai.
One day Workshop on “MONEY MATTERS” was conducted on 27th
Feb 2015. Mr.C. Ravishankar, Executive Vice President- Finance Sundaram
Motors, Chennai, gave the key note address on “Personal finance and
investment – the saving game”.
Mr. R.SURESH, Group CFO, Life cell international, Chennai, delivered a
lecture on “MONEY MATTERS”.
One day Workshop “HR TOMORROW” was organized on 11th MARCH
2015. Mr.M.S.SRINIVASAN, Director, KCIG, Chennai delivered the inaugural
address.
Ms. L.SREEDEVI addressed the students on social responsibility.
Panel discussion was conducted by Ms.C.MADHUMATHI, Group Head
HR, Hand In Hand India & Mr.Dasarathy Krishnaswamy, DGM-HR, Sundaram
Motors, Chennai.
INDUSTRIAL VISITS:
Industrial visits were arranged to provide a visual experience of production and
operational process of the manufacturing and service industries.
An Industrial Visit to “Parle-G” was arranged on 17th September 2014.
One day visit to solid waste management project, Mahabalipuram.
A visit to „Woorys Automobiles”, Maraimalainagar on 30th
Jan 2015.
A visit to “Medimix”, Thirumazhisai was organized on 7th
Feb 2015.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATION
The enthusiastic students of this Institute actively took part in the Management
and Technical Meets organized by other Colleges and Institutes to exhibit their
talents.
Six students of III MCA attended the Seminar on “The Scope of French
Language in Global Market” organized by French Department of Asan
Memorial College of Arts & Science, Shift II, on 12.8.2014.
Soft Skill Spoken English Programme was conducted by the MCA
students representing the YRC, of AMCAS, Government Higher Secondary
School, Pallikaranai for THREE days (11.08.2014 to 13.08.2014).
A Group of students of I MBA have participated in the International
Conference and competitions organized by Vidhyasagar College, Chengalpattu
and won 1st prize in Com. Connections and 3
rd prize in Adzap.
Four final year MCA students attended the Personality Development
programme hosted by the experts from Academic Career Excellence, Chennai
from 9.9.2014 to 17.9.2014 organized by MBA Department, Asan Institute of
Management, Chennai.
II MCA and I MCA students participated in various intercollegiate
technical events organized by Ethiraj College “ANVANYA-14” on 15.9.2014
& 16.9.2014.
A Group of II MBA student has participated in the competitions
organized by Jeppiar Engg. College on 24th
September 2014 and won 3rd
prize
in Ad zap and 2nd
Prize in Best Manager.

Faculty participation
To cope with the rapid changes in all the fields it is absolutely necessary for the
faculty members to update their knowledge and skills. Our faculty members
were encouraged to participate in FDPs, Seminars, and Conferences, and also to
present and publish papers and research articles.

To conclude, I wish to thank all those who have been encouraging and
supporting us for the growth and development of this Institute. In
particular I would like to recollect memories of our Chairman Shri. A.K.
Gopalan, who was always the constant source of inspiration for all of us.

Motivation is the power that activates the engine of success and move to act and do things. It
is a driving force. A wish is not strong enough to make you take action. A wish is a weak
desire. Only a strong desire can drive you forward, to act and accomplish aims and goals.
And this shall happen only when people are well aware of what they want exactly will lead to
a strong desire. If you want to increase motivation, you have to work on your feelings and
imagination.
Clarity and desirability will enable motivation. And cultivation of positive attitude and
thinking is also very much needed to believe in motivation. Basically desire and ambition is
the base for motivation. Motivation generates intuitiveness, directs, energizes the person and
also ensures that the person is courageous and persistence to follow their desire or ambition.
Motivation provides belief and faith in ones abilities. Ultimately, the willingness to do things
is what the motivation‟s end result becomes.

"To All The Dreamers Out There..."
Turn off the T.V. Turn down the volume on your radio. Block out all noise. Be quiet and
listen. Listen for just five minutes. I don‟t want you to pay attention for my sake, but for
yours. Are you not worth five minutes of your own time?
Do you have a deep desire to achieve something great? Do you want to live a more satisfying
life? Can you see yourself being happy and successful in every way? Do you believe in your
own potential and here is much more to you than meets the eye?
If so, you are a dreamer. This article is dedicated to you. Right now you are the most
important person around. If you had been the only person to ever read this article, I would
still have written it, just for you. You are that special.
Motivation to achieve success - what is a dreamer?
But before we go any further, let me qualify what a dreamer is because people often don‟t
appreciate being called dreamers. In-fact, it‟s almost an insult to call someone a dreamer
these days. It‟s associated with having your head in the clouds and not being realistic. So let
me explain.
A dreamer is a person who is not afraid to challenge society‟s norms and not afraid to tread
their own path rather than following the well-trodden path. A dreamer is someone who is
always willing to take a chance and always asks why before doing something that others are
doing blindly. A dreamer is a person who has a great futuristic picture which they work to
achieve at all costs. Dreamers are world changers.
Dreamers chart their own course and destiny. Dreamers are always striving to be the person
they were meant to be and are not afraid to be different. I believe every one of us is born
unique in every way, but over the years we work very hard to become like everyone else.
Motivation to achieve success - Don't follow the crowd

Society‟s commonsense tells us that that is the way to go. Unfortunately, commonsense is not
always good-sense. It‟s just common. If you are a dreamer you cannot afford to work on
society‟s assumptions and standards. You have to be unique.
For instance, a lot of people have spent anything from 15 to 20 years getting an education so
they can have that perfect job and earn a huge salary. Unfortunately for most, the perfect job
and the huge earnings never materialize. They only have the long hard years of work and
loads of papers with unpronounceable names to show for it.
Most of them have lost touch with the very people they are working so hard to provide for -
their husband, wife and children, all because of having to “work hard" for a living. Yet few
ask themselves if there is a better way. They blindly follow what they‟ve always been taught.
Motivation to achieve success – chart your own course.
I am here to tell you that there is another way. It‟s not for everyone. It‟s not the only way. It‟s
not the easier way. Actually, it is more likely to be the harder way. But I guarantee you it is
the best way. It is simply this – follow your dreams. If you can think it, you can have it.
Following your dreams, however, is a process and comes at a price. What is the process and
what is the price to be paid? Be patient. All will be revealed. Patience, by the way is part of it.
Get-rich-quick and easy success schemes don‟t last.

Over the coming weeks I will talk about the characteristics of a dreamer and some of the
things you absolutely must do if you want to live the life you deserve to live. Some of them
you may already know and others will be new. Whatever the case, you will pick up a number
of useful ideas that may just make the difference between living in mediocrity and living a
fulfilled life.
Brian Tracy states that “all successful men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what
their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant
vision, that goal or purpose."

A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

What is the difference between management and leadership?
A question has been asked more than once and answered in different ways. The biggest
difference between managers and leaders is the way they motivate the people who work or
follow them, and this sets the tone for most other aspects of what they do.
Many people, by the way, are both. They have management jobs, but they realize that you
cannot buy hearts, especially to follow them down a difficult path, and so act as leaders too.
Managers have subordinates
By definition, managers have subordinates - unless their title is honorary and given as a mark
of seniority, in which case the title is a misnomer and their power over others is other than
formal authority.
Authoritarian, transactional style
Managers have a position of authority vested in them by the company, and their subordinates
work for them and largely do as they are told. Management style is transactional, in that the
manager tells the subordinate what to do, and the subordinate does this not because they are a
blind robot, but because they have been promised a reward (at minimum their salary) for
doing so.
Work focus
Managers are paid to get things done (they are subordinates too), often within tight
constraints of time and money. They thus naturally pass on this work focus to their
subordinates.
Seek comfort
An interesting research finding about managers is that they tend to come from stable home
backgrounds and led relatively normal and comfortable lives. This leads them to be relatively
risk-averse and they will seek to avoid conflict where possible. In terms of people, they
generally like to run a 'happy ship'.
Leaders have followers
Leaders do not have subordinates - at least not when they are leading. Many organizational
leaders do have subordinates, but only because they are also managers. But when they want
to lead, they have to give up formal authoritarian control, because to lead is to have
followers, and following is always a voluntary activity.

Charismatic, transformational style
Telling people what to do does not inspire them to follow you. You have to appeal to them,
showing how following you will lead them to their hearts' desire. They must want to follow
you enough to stop what they are doing and perhaps walk into danger and situations that they
would not normally consider risking.
Leaders with a stronger charisma find it easier to attract people to their cause. As a part of
their persuasion they typically promise transformational benefits, such that their followers
will not just receive extrinsic rewards but will somehow become better people.
People focus
Although many leaders have a charismatic style to some extent, this does not require a loud
personality. They are always good with people, and quiet styles that give credit to others (and
take blame on themselves) are very effective at creating the loyalty that great leaders
engender.
Although leaders are good with people, this does not mean they are friendly with them. In
order to keep the mystique of leadership, they often retain a degree of separation and
aloofness.
This does not mean that leaders do not pay attention to tasks - in fact they are often very
achievement-focused. What they do realize, however, is the importance of enthusing others to
work towards their vision.
Seek risk
In the same study that showed managers as risk-averse, leaders appeared as risk-seeking,
although they are not blind thrill-seekers. When pursuing their vision, they consider it natural
to encounter problems and hurdles that must be overcome along the way. They are thus
comfortable with risk and will see routes that others avoid as potential opportunities for
advantage and will happily break rules in order to get things done.
A surprising number of these leaders had some form of handicap in their lives which they had
to overcome. Some had traumatic childhoods, some had problems such as dyslexia, others
were shorter than average. This perhaps taught them the independence of mind that is needed
to go out on a limb and not worry about what others are thinking about you.
In summary
This table summarizes the above (and more) and gives a sense of the differences between
being a leader and being a manager. This is, of course, an illustrative characterization, and
there is a whole spectrum between either ends of these scales along which each role can
range. And many people lead and manage at the same time, and so may display a
combination of behaviours.

BE A SITUATIONAL LEADER!!!

Situational leadership refers to when the leader or manager of an organization must adjust
his style to fit the development level of the followers he is trying to influence.
The following are some of the basic characteristics of the situational leadership style.
1. Flexibility
The fundamental idea of situational leadership is that there is no such thing as a single best or
fixed type of leadership. Leadership changes according to the requirements of the group or
organization, and successful leaders are able to be flexible and adapt their style of leadership
to the level of maturity of the group that they‟re trying to lead.
2. Changes according to the situation
The leadership style that the situational leader brings into play will be dependent on the
situation at hand and the development level of the individuals involved. If the development
level is low, the situational leader becomes more task-oriented. If the individuals are
sufficiently developed, the leader will be more supportive.
3. Directing
Situational leadership will be high on the “directive” aspect when the subordinates are not
sufficiently developed and need constant supervision. Here, the leader gives specific
instructions about what the goals are, and exactly how the goals need to be achieved. It is
similar to a parent supervising the actions of a kid.
4. Coaching
If the situation demands it, the leader will also coach their team. This is an extension of the
directive approach; the leader still provides detailed instructions but they also focus on
encouraging the subordinates, soliciting inputs, and explaining why they have made certain
decisions.
5. Participating
The situational leader may try to encourage a team to become more independent performing
the tasks by letting them take routine decisions. High-level problem-solving is still under
their purview, but they allow team members to actively participate in the decision-making
process.
6. Delegating
When dealing with a highly matured and capable team, the situational leader will gradually
reduce their supervision and involvement in the daily activities of team members. The leader
is involved while discussing the tasks and deciding on the goals to be achieved, but after that
team members have complete freedom on how they want to accomplish these goals.

7. Integrity
The situational leader does not change their approach merely to take advantage of the
situation. They simply adapt in a way that is most appropriate considering factors such as the
maturity level of followers, the organizational structure and culture, and the goals to be
achieved. They do so with integrity, and are not motivated by a desire to unfairly capitalize
on the weaknesses of the team or organization.
8. Courage
It takes a lot of courage for a leader to try out different leadership approaches and figure out
which one is ideal. Most leaders stick to a particular way of doing things – whatever has
worked best for them in the past. But situational leader is not afraid to take chances and to
adopt a radically different leadership style if the situation demands it.
9. Clear vision
The situational leader has a clear vision of where the team is going. This is what allows a
leader to identify and adopt the most effective behaviors and strategies to get to the goal.
10. Humility
The situational leader does not claim to know it all. With a group of highly developed and
mature followers, they have the humility to accept limitations and seek the higher wisdom of
the group.
Being successful leader or manager depends up on the ability to solve problem in a given
situation.

WORKING TOGETHER HAND IN GLOVE

Working with others, whether as an individual or as a leader of an Organization, is an
essential part of every individual, manager's and entrepreneur's remit. Team working is
rapidly becoming the preferred practice in many organizations as traditional corporate
hierarchies give way to flat, multi skilled working methods.
Whether we are Entrepreneur's, CEO's, Manager's or something else, there's a pretty good
chance we'll interact with other people along the way. Unless our plan is to work in a vacuum
and be unknown to anyone ever, we'll have to factor these people into our equation of success
- partners, patrons, investors, bosses, colleagues, clients, customers, and / or critics.
Depending on our goal, working with others may be a big factor or a little factor, but it
almost certainly counts.
The famous quote by Ryunosuke Satoro, "Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an
ocean," reminds me of a good Chinese story which tells us the importance of working
together.
In ancient China, during the period of the South-North Dynasty, there was a kingdom called
Tuguhun, which was established by the Xianbei ethnicity at the Northwestern border region.
The legend Acai was the emperor of this kingdom.
Acai had twenty sons, each one of whom was strong and skilled at fighting. Each had his
unique expertise. When Acai was very ill, he called all of his sons together and asked each
one of them to give him one arrow. He then said to his younger brother, Mu Liyan, "Please
take one arrow here and break it." Mu Liyan easily broke the arrow. Acai then said, "Please
take nineteen arrows here and break them." Mu Liyan could no longer break the bundle of
arrows. Acai said, "Now do you understand? One arrow is very easily broken, while a bundle
of arrows is hard to break. As long as all of you work together with one heart, our kingdom
will be stable."
Acai's words, "One arrow is easily broken, while a bundle of arrows is hard to break," tell us
the same thing that has been said by the ancient people, "When people's hearts are joined
together as one, even a Mountain can be moved.” The story points out the importance of
people working together with one heart.
In his best seller book “Success ", J.Pincott talks about how we can successfully work with
others. Let me share with you these simple tips which can help us in effectively working with
others:
1) Realize that we need others: No matter how independent we are as individuals, we
depend on others to define ourselves and create purpose in our lives.
2) Get them to identify with us: Finding out how successful people get others to work with
them or for them is always interesting. The bottom line is that we need to make an effort to
identify with others and to get others to identify with us.

3) Don't worry so much about getting credit: We may need to work with others as partners
or in teams, or working under another person or within a company. Our job, always, is to
make that person above us look good at the same time that we get what we need from the job.
Actually, the better job we do, the better it is for the person above us. Don't worry about the
boss getting credit for what we do.
4) Earn the respect of others: Respect is a strong motivator for success. But it's not easy to
achieve the kind of success and respect we wanted. It requires a consistency of behavior that
is truly impressive. It requires that we treat others in an honest and caring way.
5) Watch our words: To successful people, working with others means knowing what to say
- and what not to say.
6) Handle difficult people with care: Some jobs require better social skills than others.
From those who must constantly interact with others, there's a good chance we'll encounter
difficult people. Sometimes people say unkind or thoughtless things, and when they do, it is
best to be a little hard of hearing - to tune out and not snap back in anger or impatience.
7) Have a healthy skepticism of authority: Like Buddha says, “Do not believe in anything
simply because we have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and
rumored by many. But after observation and analysis, when we find that anything agrees with
reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to
it."
8) Don't be afraid to depend on others: Don't be afraid to ask for help; our success might
depend on it. There is a magic that results when a person invests in us. He becomes a big-
time investor in our success, a stockholder in our dreams. Because, when we ask someone for
help, we are implicitly asking him to place a bet on us. The more people we get to bet on us,
the larger our network of investors and the shorter the odds.
It goes without saying, the basic principle of working together with our team should underpin
how we operate. Managing people doesn't just mean acting as a watch dog but it to see that
they get their work done satisfactorily. It also means involving people throughout in a
creative role, to ensure that together we are all able to succeed.
When we engage people on broad issues, it will motivate them. Let's not underestimate our
people and always remember, their views can enhance everything: methods, standards,
processes and overall effectiveness. The managers are not paid to have all the ideas that are
necessary to keep their section working well in a changing world, but they are paid to make
sure that there are enough ideas to make things work and go on working. Let's use our people
and make it clear to them that we want and value their contributions.
Like Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success. What are we waiting for?” Let‟s come together, keep together
and work together to be successful in personal and professional life.

Many people consider that positive thinking takes lots of effort. In the beginning, while we
form the new habit, it certainly will take awareness. However, the only way to empower
ourselves to live Our Very outstanding Life is to live deliberately with an awareness of our
thoughts.
It is said that of the 65,000 plus thoughts that flip through our mind each day, 95% of them
are the same ones we thought yesterday. Yes, 95%! Why in the world do we do that? The
simple answer-most of us live in the past or the future, missing the only time that really
counts and really that matters- the present.
Most of us use the energy we need for today; to keep alive memoirs from the past or misuse
our imagination by carrying past pain into the future as slightly altered experiences. The fears
that stop us from living our dreams are really expectation of bad experiences in the future. In
other words, many of us take our past into the future and remain stuck in life.
With little effort we can find ourselves to be positive thinkers. Positive thinking is actually
very simple, here are a few ways we can get started...and have a positive impact on all areas
in our life -
If we find ourselves thinking about a negative thought, change it to a positive thought.
Surround our life with positive people, don't allow negativity into our life.
Spend our time on activities that bring us joy.
Invoke positive memories whenever we can.
Relish the simple pleasures in our life.
Be around people who make us laugh.
Love ourselves.
Don't fool ourselves into thinking that, just because the above ideas are simple they will not
work. The reverse is actually true, and we all know what impact positive v/s negative
thoughts can have in our life. If we convey a positive attitude towards others we will be
surrounded by people who want to be around us and are positive themselves. These

relationships will only continue to grow and bring more positive energy into our life. The
opposite is true as well, so keep positive thoughts.
Remember thinking positive is only a platform where the thinking has to transform into
positive action which should eventually become positive habits which lead to positive results.
But everything starts with positive thinking!
Have you heard of the old saying "he woke up on the wrong side of the bed?" We have all
experienced this before ourselves, for some reason we wake up in a bad mood and our entire
day seems to turn out bad. Did you know that we can change this?
Begin each day in a positive manner. Open the drapes to let the sun shine in, put on some of
our favorite music, tell ourselves a positive thought or two...whatever it takes to start our
positive thinking. We will be amazed at what these simple changes can bring to our life.
Well, just because these ideas are simple...does not mean they are easy. That is probably why
everyone is not walking around with a positive attitude, because it takes work, desire, and
discipline to live our life in this manner. It is easier being negative! The choice is ours, we
have nobody to hold responsible but ourselves, when deciding between positive v/s negative
thoughts.

Suffering is an inescapable fact. It begins with the beginning of life. We are bound to
encounter the sufferings of sickness and old age. As we pass through life, we have to suffer
physical or mental pain. We fail to get what we do not want. All these situations are
suffering. And suffering is the inordinate attachment that we have developed towards the
body and the mind. It begins with ignorance about the reality of our true nature. Blinded by
ignorance, we generate reactions of craving and aversion which will lead to all types of
unhappiness. If we put an end to ignorance, there will be no suffering. In absence of
suffering, we experience peace and happiness. The wheel of suffering will change into the
wheel of joy. We should fight injustice but we should do it with a balanced mind and without
tension. The first step in avoiding suffering is to accept the reality of it. We should take it as a
fact of existence which affects each one of us in our lives. If we do so, we can set ourselves
on the path leading out of suffering. And suffering can make a man noble-minded. The
experience of suffering enables people to grow in character. As the action is, so the result will
be. Take for example, the seed of sugarcane and sees of the neem tree. Nature only helps the
quality of the seed to manifest. The seed of sugarcane has the quality sweetness. The seed of
the neem tree has the quality of bitterness. As the seed is, so the fruit will be. We forget the
pinch of our own suffering when we share the sorrows of others. We feel our suffering less
pinching when we start helping those who are in trouble. We are a part of the human society.
We cannot live alone all along. We are not islands. If we have social awareness, we can
reduce our suffering. We are happy only when all others around us are happy. If we develop
this social feeling in us, we will surely be less affected by our sufferings. We have to rejoice
the delight moments and bear the pinch of suffering because life is a wheel of enjoyment and
suffering. No flower is eternal and no joy or suffering is forever.

A cup of coffee:
A candidate walked in for an interview. The interviewer asked the candidate different
questions about his education, skills and experience. During the interview, the interviewer
ordered for a cup of coffee. Meanwhile, a cup of coffee was arrived. It was placed before the
candidate. The candidate was a bit confused why only one cup of coffee was ordered.
The interviewer asked him the next question!
„What is before you?‟
What is the answer? If you say coffee, (which was placed before the candidate, you are
wrong. You don‟t think laterally)!
The answer was T! Yes, alphabet T was before U!
Others would have said, COFFEE, as coffee was placed before the candidate.
One difficult question: It was the final round of the interview. Only three candidates were left
for the final pick. All the previous rounds were difficult and the final candidates became
nervous over the last round of interview.
All the three were brought together for the final round. The chief interviewer asked them to
pick a choice.
1. A choice of answering 7 easy questions or
2. A choice of answering 1 difficult question.
There was a condition. The condition was, even if they answer the questions with wrong
answer for at least one question, they will be disqualified.
The first two candidates opted to first choice and they preferred to answer 7 easy questions.
The third candidate picked the second choice of answering 1 difficult question.
Everyone wondered!
The first two candidates were questioned separately and they failed to answer all 7 correctly.
One question was asked to the third candidate.
It was, „Which came first? An Egg or a Hen?‟
The candidate without any hesitation replied, a Hen! Surprised interviewer asked him „how
and can you justify?‟
The candidate replied smartly, „Sir, you were supposed to ask me only one question and I

answered it!‟
Needless to say, he was awarded the job!
Sometimes, smartness is also equally essential to excel!
Interview for one of the computer giants:
Interviewer: I see you have very good grades. I am going to ask you to write a program for
me.
The candidate almost exploded his mind thinking about what the questions will be.
Interviewer: Write a program that prints Hello World in any language of your choice.
He was totally taken aback but finished writing the program (which was one line). And that
was when the twist came.
Interviewer: Now I will go out and come back in five minutes. I want you to find out fifteen
mistakes in your program and correct it before I come back.
And the stupidest thing that the candidate did that day was trying to find out errors in his one
line of code. For which he was rejected royally.
All we need is a self-consciousness and confidence!

We start a relationship with the right expectations. But we should not expect too much. If we
start with high hopes, the relation is likely to flounder. For anyone to fulfil our expectations,
they need to understand what is expected of them. And this understanding takes time.
Besides, expectations are always two sided, so having low expectations ensures the same
from others.
Stop Being Judgemental
If we are too judgemental, we might focus only on the negatives and miss out on some of the
finer qualities our friends might possess. People don‟t necessarily have to fit into our image
of a good person. There are many other ways in which people can be good. Also, if every

person in your life fits into your definition of good, chances are that all the people in your life
will be alike. If we are eclectic in our views, life will shower on you an abundance of friends.
Another golden rule is to have no pre-conceived notion about either the person or the
relationship. What the relationship should involve should be determined by the experiences
the two people share, and not by a fixed definition that is prevalent. The relationship could be
an intense one, or it could be just a casual friendship where both people have the same idea of
fun. If we don‟t start with a fixed notion, the freedom in the relationship helps you grow and
explore.
Communication Is Important
In any relationship, and especially in friendship, it is important to communicate clearly what
we are feeling. Honest communication leads to the right expectations. Always speak frankly
about the way we feel. This ensures that our friend understands us for who we are and not the
image that they might have created in their mind. It also ensures that there is complete
acceptance and trust in the relationship.
The more acceptances there are, the easier it is to trust. Eventually trust is the basis for any
strong relationship. But to develop trust we need to communicate clearly and be non-
judgemental.

involvement of lots of other people in achieving our goals.
Let me narrate a funny but interesting story which tells us the importance of being useful to
others that makes us lovable & respectable in our organization.
Once a stranded tiger entered the washroom of a corporate office and hid itself in a dark
corner. As there was always human movements outside, the tiger was afraid of coming out.
Many persons frequented the washroom, but the frightened tiger did not attack any one.
But after four days it could not bear the pangs of hunger and caught the man who went in and
ate him up. This man happened to be an Assistant General Manger of the organization, but
nobody noticed his disappearance. Since nothing happened by way of attacking, the man-
eater tiger became more daring and after two days caught another man and ate him. This man
was the General Manager of the organization. Still nobody worried about his disappearance
(some people were even happy that he was not in the office).
The next day, the tiger caught the Vice President who was a terror in the organization. Again,
no one tried to finish off the tiger. The tiger was very happy and decided that this was the
right place for it to live.
The very next day, the happy tiger caught a man who had entered the washroom with a tray
of teacups. The frightened man fell unconscious. Within 15 minutes, there was a big hue and
cry and everyone in the office was out in search of the missing man. The search team reached
the washroom, flushed out the tiger and saved the unconscious man. He was the tea supplier
to the office!
The story tells us, it is not the position but usefulness to others that makes one lovable and
respectable. We need to realize the fact that, no matter how independent we are as
individuals, we depend upon others to define ourselves and create purpose in our lives.
Let me share with you seven things we need to do in an organization which form the basis for
effective work relationships. These are the actions we should take to create a positive work
environment for people.
1) Talk about solutions- not just the problems: Most of the people spend lot of time
identifying only problems. That's something any one can do. But the solutions to the
problems are the challenge that will earn respect and admiration from team members and
leaders.
2) Never play the blame game: We tend to alienate team members, subordinates, and people
reporting to us. But, we may need to identify who was involved in a problem. We also need
to understand about the work system which caused the team member to fail. Instead if we
say, it‟s not my fault and publicly blaming others for failures will earn enemies. These
enemies will only help us to fail. All we need is allies at work.

3) Our communication matters: If we talk down to another team member, use sarcasm, or
sound nasty, others hear us. Once a senior manager of an organization told me, "I know I
shouldn‟t scream at my team member. But, sometimes, they make me so mad. Tell me when
is it appropriate for me to scream at the team members?" My answer is simple- Never!
Giving respect for our people is a hallmark of our organization.
4) Don‟t blind side a team member, manager, or people reporting to you: If a team
member hears about a problem related to him through an email sent to his superior, we have
blindsided that team member. It‟s better to discuss problems with the people directly
involved. We will never build effective work relationships unless our team members trust us.
5) Keep our words: In every organization, the jobs are interlinked. When we fail to meet
deadlines or commitments given, we affect the work of other team members. It‟s important to
keep up our words, and if we can't, make sure all affected team members know what
happened. Give a new due date and make every possible effort to honor the new deadline.
6) Give full credit for accomplishments, ideas, and contributions: Can we accomplish a
goal or complete a task with no help from others? As a leader, how many of the great ideas
we promote were contributed by our team members? Take time and energy to thank,
recognize, and reward the contributions of the team members who help us succeed.
7) Help other team members to find their potential: Every team members in our
organization has talents, skills, and experience. If we can help them to harness their best
abilities, the entire organization will grow. Let‟s compliment, recognize, praise, and value
contributions. By doing this, team members do find and contribute their best.
Like Brain Tracy says, we can accomplish anything we want in life by simply finding ways
to help other people to accomplish their goals in life. And the more creative we are in
leveraging and multiplying our talents and abilities times the talents and abilities of others,
the higher we can raise and the faster we can move forward in our life.

Researchers recently unveiled its 2015 report, outlining the trends HR can expect to see – and
handle – in the coming year. Authors of the report highlighted five major trends which are
“reshaping the nature of work and the ways organizations approach talent management”.
Leadership: Why a perennial issue?
According to the report, companies are struggling with leadership development at all levels,
leading many employers to invest in new and accelerated models.
Creating excellent leaders remains highly important, ranking as the second biggest priority
for HR in this year‟s survey. However, while almost 90% of respondents cited it as either
“important” or “very important”, the findings also suggested that organizations have made
little or no progress since last year: the capability gap for developing leaders has widened in
every global region.
Learning and Development : Into the spotlight
Companies will need to be actively exploring new approaches to learning and development
as they confront increasing skills gaps, the report said.
The need to transform and accelerate corporate learning was this year‟s third most important
challenge to HR, with the number of companies rating Learning and Development (L&D) as
“very important” tripling over the past year. But while the importance of the issue increased,
HR‟s readiness to handle it weakened – just 40% of respondents said that their organisation
was prepared for L&D in 2015, compared to 75% last year.
Culture and engagement : The naked organization
Organizations are continuing to recognize the need to focus on corporate culture and
dramatically improving employee engagement as 2015 threatens to bring a crisis in
engagement and retention.

Researchers found that this year, culture and engagement were rated the most important
issue overall, replacing leadership as the top priority. This highlights the need for leaders to
gain a clear understanding of their company‟s culture, and re-examine every HR and talent
program as a way to engage and empower their people.

All aspects of the workforce are being managed sophisticatedly, including the hourly,

stakeholders from the shareholders to the managers to the government to the employees are
comprised of people. Since, where people are involved, psychology is involved. Psychology
has it effects on all the aspects of a business. It helps us understand the human behavior and
reasoning behind thoughts, processes, actions and goals.
The shareholders have a vision before investing in a business. The goals, missions, objectives
etc are based on this vision. The psychology of the share holders helps in deciding whether
the business is for profit or has a social objective. Share holders decide which shares to
purchase depending on their inherent values and psychology. Some share holders do not
invest in stocks of companies associated with alcohol. This is their personal belief. In small
firms where decisions are taken by the shareholders, management policies are affected by the
psychology of the shareholders.
The psychology of the employees is particularly difficult to explain since all employees are at
different levels of the hierarchy. There are supervisors and reporters to consider. There is the
top, middle and lower level managements to consider. All of whom are different and have
different motivations and needs. The top level usually controls the labour force. They should
be efficient and organized. Along with being strategic thinkers, they should also have the
ability to predict or at least understand how people would react to policy decisions and
changes. They should have the ability to be good leaders. Understanding psychology helps
managers lead the team to great success. The middle level needs to lead the lower level but
also work according to the guidelines issued by the top management. Conflict managements,
negotiations etc would be common and they should be comfortable with it. Identifying
potential employee related problems and solving them before they affect the bottom line of
the company is necessary for them. The middle level management should be given proper

incentives so that they are loyal to the company. The lower level management should have
outlets for grievance redressal. They should be made to feel a part of the company. Attrition
should be reduced. Absenteeism, union problems, inefficiencies should be addressed at the
grass root levels. Using human psychology to improve efficiencies has been very beneficial
in recent times.
Consumer psychology is another very important aspect. Understanding customers‟ needs,
wants and desires is integral. Tools like market research, surveys, etc helps in determining
which product would be well received and which would not. Decisions to increase or
decrease production, decisions on distribution channels, sales promotion techniques all
depends on the psychology of the customers. Tactics used to influence customers could be
out of influence and persuasion. Understanding the psychology of the customers is the key to
maximizing profits of the company. Companies also use consumer psychology to predict
what kinds of products customers would want in the future. Research and development is
then conducted on these ideas and theories to make products the customer wants.
Supplier psychology helps us negotiate for fair rates which in return affects the profits of the
organisation. It also helps us choose the right supplier according to our needs.
These are the major dimensions of the business which are influenced by psychology.
Psychology also plays a major role across departments from Human Resources to production
to finance to sales. All are influenced by the psychological requirements of the people
involved.
Psychology in Human Resource Department
In the Human Resources department, psychology is used to Fine-tune the hiring processes.
Appropriate measures are taken to curb attrition, increase employee retention, increase
employee productivity and loyalty using psychology as a factor. It helps in Deciding on
appropriated employee review methods and frequency is taken by keeping the psychology of
the employees in mind. In the Production department decisions like what to produce, how
much to produce, how to produce, where to produce depends on the psychology of the
customers and the labour force. Ideal working hours, wage rate are all determined using
psychology as a guiding factor. In the Finance department, identifying which costs can be
controlled and minimised, investment decisions, the incentives which can be offered, the

pricing of the product are all made keeping in mind the psyche of the people concerned. In
the Advertising and Promotion departments, deciding which advertisements would appeal to
the customers, the duration of the advertisement, the target audience, the timing of the
advertisement, the medium used are all dependent on the organization‟s perception of the
consumers‟ psychology. In the Sales and distribution department, deciding the channels of
distribution, the quantity of stock to be kept, the shops in which the stock is to be kept, etc all
depends on the consumers. Apart from all this, Innovation is completely based on
understanding the psychology of the markets. Trial and error methods are the order of the
day, but these need to be based on facts and opinions. Psychology helps us understand the
models that businesses before us have used and also helps us adapt the same to our
innovations in these ever-changing times in order to create business models which would
make us successful. In short we can learn from our predecessors and adapt their successes
without suffering through their failures.
Psychology is a phenomenon. Its role in business administration and management is ever-

INTRODUCTION
Risk management is one of the most critical aspects of management. Being safe in our own
small world will not give access to many opportunities, but if you open yourself up to the
world, you are also vulnerable to risks. Risk is like stress. Risks, today, are everywhere. In
every walk of life, every day and every aspect of our being, it‟s risky to cross a road, it‟s
risky to drive at night, and it‟s risky to make investments. Each of these has an aspect of a
prominent term that we define as “loss or failure”. And, it is the fear of this loss or failure that
sometimes takes over our will to take up any risks at all. The concept of risk has a direct
relation with the concept of returns. Less the risk, less return and more the risk, more return.
The concept of risk management is a very broad one. The entire principle revolves around
creating “Value” – worth. Risk management today is an integral part of any organization,
especially in decision making. It encapsulates: uncertainties, risks and assumptions. Risk
Management engulfs four major stages associated with any risk. It talks about identifying the
risk(s), assessing them constantly, monitoring the risks and finally controlling it with
appropriate measures and actions.
Breaking these steps down, and understanding the scope of each of them would be as follows:
1. Detect the Risk:
Risks are everywhere. What is important is to identify them, and then play the game around
it. Many companies, to play safe, use checklists to identify potential risks or risks of the
future. These lists are based on their experiences and learning‟s from the past projects. Risks
are also identified sometimes by category, for example financial risks, political risks or
environmental risks.
Detecting risks helps an organization understand the future obligation it may have to face due
to the peril. Thus, risk management is a long, tedious job, but yet, a very important one.
2. Measure the Risk:
Once risks are identified, it becomes crucial to understand their nature, effect and
implications. The risks are calculated on the basis of the probability of its occurrence and the

damage associated with it. Measuring and estimating risks, allows an organization to set aside
funds and other resources to overcome these risks.
Risk measurement generally happens in a brainstorming (workshop) session. In such
sessions, each event is analyzed, the risks are identified and their possibility of occurrence is
studied and its bearing is rated as low, medium or high. This calls in the need for a Risk
Easing Plan (REP). A REP mainly addressed the articles that have high ranking on both the
elements – possibility and bearing.
3. Screen the risk:
The risk screening is mainly done to reduce the effect of an unanticipated event. Risk
screening mainly deals with risk avoidance, sharing, reduction and transfer. Risk screening is
mainly to ensure that risks are constantly reviewed in line with the forbearance level and
rocketed as suitable. Screening is done mainly by reviews at regular intervals.
Risk forbearances provide confines, against which risks can be equaled. This is done to
understand whether the risks are acceptable or not. Forbearances provide edges against which
action can be taken continuously.
4. Risk Control:
Identifying, assessing and screening risks finally lead to the last point in the loop, which is
effective risk control. Risk control is mainly the route which acts as the governing tools and
invasions that are applied to manage concerns, condense or avoid risks and to exploit
opportunities.

The above 4 steps happen one after another. However, the 2 links that continuously affect and
effect these four steps are the concepts of “Learning and Adaptation” and “Evaluation”.
This completes the infinity of the Risk Management process.
Risk, even today may be a “When it happens, we will see”, but this perception is changing,
and in the next few years, this concept would be a super riding factor for organizations. Risk
Management may be stressful! But then, even stress is sometimes good!

The Geese Story - Team Building & Leadership Lessons from Nature!

This group of Geese reminded me the magnificent story which I use for training to learn the
basics of Team building & Leadership. Well, is there any link between the Geese &
Teambuilding?
We know Team building skills are critical for our effectiveness as a Manager or
Entrepreneur. People in every workplace talk about building the team, working as a team, but
few understand how to create the experience of team work or how to develop an effective
team. Belonging to a team, in the broadest sense, is a result of feeling part of something
larger than yourself.
We do have some lessons from Geese which provides a perfect example of the importance of
team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal or
business endeavor. Geese take full advantage of the power of their group, sharing leadership
responsibilities and flying in a structure that enables the flock to leverage the strength and
power of its individual members, sometimes numbering in to thousands. It is said that the
Geese can make an annual round trip journey of more than 5,000 miles at a speed of 50 mph
or more!
I am sure the Team building & Leadership lessons from the geese can be helpful in our
workplaces. Lessons from Geese was initially transcribed from a speech given by Angeles
Adrien and was based on the work of Milton Olson. We can use the following five lessons in
our personal and business life and it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion
and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members.
Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals.
As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "UPLIFT" for the birds that follow. By flying in
a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range.
Outcome: When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each
other to achieve our goals.
Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work.
When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone.
It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front.
Outcome: If we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed

where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.
Lesson 3 - The Importance of Sharing.
When a goose tires of flying up front it drops back into formation and another goose flies to
the point position.
Outcome : It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks. We should respect and protect each
other's unique arrangement of skills, capabilities, talents and resources.
Lesson 4 - The Importance of Empathy and Understanding.
When a goose gets sick, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to the ground to
help and protect it.
Outcome : If we have as much sense as geese we will stand by each other in difficult times, as
well as when we are strong.
Lesson 5 - The Importance of Encouragement
Geese flying in formation 'HONK' to encourage those up front to keep up with their speed.
Outcome: We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups and teams where
there is encouragement, productivity is much greater. 'Individual empowerment results from
quality honking'.
People who share a common vision, mission, and purpose, like the geese, attain that goal
faster and more efficiently when they work together. Just as the geese generate thrust as they
travel together, our team's thrust will allow us to accomplish more when we stay together.
The geese also teach us that staying in formation gives a bonding and makes it better than
going alone. Unity in the workplace is defined not by a pat on the back when we succeed, but
in lifting up a team member's hand when he is down. A unified team wants everyone to
succeed.

Will 2016 be India‟s Year of Excellence? Most of the world development bodies are
predicting India to lead the world GDP growth in FY16. The World Bank in its January 2016
Global Economic Prospect report projected that India‟s GDP will grow by 7.8% in 2016 and
7.9% in 2017. The Bank also predicted that India will be the fastest growing economy in the
world in the next three years and would remain ahead of China. The IMF Economic
Counselor and Director of Research Maury Ostfeld too have been optimistic about India in a
recent interview. “The year will offer an abundance of challenges” for the global economy,
he said but “with some exceptions such as India” which is expected to grow at a considerably
higher rate. Standard & Poor‟s and the Asian Development Bank projected last December
that the Indian economy would grow by 7.4% this year. India‟s GDP will further improve to
8% in 2016-17, projected S&P‟s Rating Services. “This reflects the increasing importance of
the Indian economy and its role as a new growth leader in Asia-Pacific, having overtaken
China”, it stated. Back home, Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley claimed that the
government was working to enhance public expenditure in physical, social, and rural
infrastructure to push GDP growth by one and a half percentage points higher than 7-7.5%
growth expected this year. The FM also said that the government is working on a set of
reforms that will make direct taxes in India one of the most competitive in the world, making
foreign investment more lucrative in India.
The Indian economy may do better than many of its peers in the current year, but can the
growth rate are sustained in a situation when the world economy in general, is apprehended to
slowdown further in the immediate future?
The world economy is going through a period of uncertainty. It has lacked a positive dynamic
in the last few years characterized by slow investment growth aggravated by weak business
and consumer confidence, poor productivity, and a number of persistent policy and business
challenges. This puts the global economy in an unsure situation where positive and negative
forces offset each other in the immediate future.
This has been reflected in the poor performance of the global economy in 2015 – global GDP
growth has slowed down to 2.4%, down 0.4 percentage points from earlier projection. GDP
growth is projected at a little higher at 2.9% for 2016 as a modest recovery in advanced

countries continues and activity stabilizes among major commodity exporters according to
the World Bank‟s January 2016 report. The growth projection, however, is 0.4 percentage
points lower than the previous one. If the IMF has projected a somewhat higher figure of
3.6% this year compared to 3.1% in 2015, the agency‟s managing director, Christine Lagarde
has warned that this year will be disappointing. The World Bank report too has warned that
although the growth in advanced economies has stabilized somewhat “downside risks
dominate and have become increasingly centered on emerging and developing countries”.
The Bank is predicting that recession in Brazil and Russia will bottom out in 2016, China will
see only a modest growth slowdown from 6.9% to 6.7% and that India will continue to grow
at a robust pace.
The situation is somewhat better for advanced economies. The US economy is projected to
grow by 2.5% – the highest since the global financial crisis. The US jobs growth has
remained robust as the economy added some 2.92 lakh jobs last December beating
expectations. The US Bureau of Labour Statistics data also showed that the jobless rate held
at its seven-and-a-half year low of 5% during the period. Professional and business services,
construction, health care and food services, all saw jobs increases. Interestingly, the US
manufacturing is forecast to increase faster than the general economy. Industrial output is
projected to grow at 2.6% in 2016 and by 3% in 2017. These are good news for the world
economy too. But the US‟ return from the long haul back to a more normal interest rate
policy may have serious impact on emerging economies. The US Federal Reserve has finally
raised its main interest rate target from the level of practically zero it has had since the end of
2008. This is likely to raise borrowing costs because money will be moved to the US to
benefit from rising interest rates. In the Euro area, growth picked up in 2015 as domestic
demand strengthened and exports accelerated partly due to the lagging effect of euro
depreciation. The GDP growth for the zone has been estimated at 1.5% in 2015, in line with
previous expectations. Spain saw the firming up of activity while Germany‟s performance
was somewhat disappointing. Italy and France are still recovering from poor performances.
However, low oil prices and favourable financing conditions are supporting consumer
spending and investment right now.

Diminishing fiscal consolidation and healing labour markets are underpinning domestic
demand in Europe. Since the start of the European Central Bank‟s quantitative easing
programme, credit conditions have improved substantially and credit growth has resumed
after several years‟ contraction. Deflation concerns have largely receded but have not
disappeared altogether and core inflation and wage growth have remained subdued,
particularly among economies with high long-term unemployment rates. Backed by these
developments, in 2015 the World Bank expects the Euro zone economies to improve further
with growth reaching 1.7%.
Conclusion
Though the US economy is doing better and the advanced European countries are slated for
higher growth in 2016, it will hardly be enough to resurrect the world economy- the World
Bank has admitted as much. The main concern right now is the fear of poor economic growth
in developing countries. Developing countries account for more than half of the world
economy since the global financial crisis, and with their higher GDP growth compared to
their developed counterparts, this share is rising continuously.

WHAT IS LI-FI?

The term Li-Fi was coined by pure LiFi‟s CSO, Professor Harald Haas, and refers to light
based communications technology that delivers a high-speed, bidirectional networked,
mobile communications in a similar manner as Wi-Fi. Although Li-Fi can be used to off-load
data from existing Wi-Fi networks, implementations may be used to provide capacity for the
greater downlink demand such that existing wireless or wired network infrastructure may be
used in a complementary fashion.
LiFi is the use of the visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to transmit
information at very high speeds. This is in contrast to established forms of wireless
communication such as Wi-Fi which use traditional radio frequency (RF) signals to transmit
data.
With LiFi, data is transmitted by modulating the intensity of the light, which is then received
by a photo-sensitive detector, and the light signal is demodulated into electronic form. This
modulation is performed in such a way that it is not perceptible to the human eye.
LiFi is a category of Optical Wireless Communications (OWC). OWC includes infra-red and
ultra-violet communications as well as visible light. However, LiFi is unique in that the same
visible light energy used for illumination may also be used for communication.

Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) is a bidirectional, high speed and fully networked wireless
communication technology similar to Wi-Fi. The term was coined by Harald Haas and is a
form of visible light communication and a subset of optical wireless communications (OWC)
and could be a complement to RF communication (Wi-Fi or Cellular network), or even a
replacement in contexts of data broadcasting. It is so far measured to be about 100 times
faster than some Wi-Fi implementations, reaching speeds of 224 gigabits per second.

1. Install a firewall: - Available in the form of either software or hardware, the purpose
of a firewall is to protect your computer from hackers and viruses by filtering the
information allowed into your network. Because you can customize these filters, you
can choose to add or remove allowable information as you see fit. So, check it before
you use computer.
2. Install antivirus software: - A virus can corrupt or delete data on your computer,
erase your hard drive, and use your email and instant messaging to spread problems to
other computers. So, it‟s to important too installing antivirus on your computer and
always tries to update it because every day new viruses is coming.
3. Install anti-spyware on your computer: - Spyware is computer software that is
installed on your computer without your consent, and is dangerous to the security of
your computer. Spyware attempts to monitor your behavior so that it can collect
personal information and they can use it of their own purpose.
4. Install a spam blocker or filter in your email account: - Spam can be one of the
easiest ways for identity thieves to trick you .Although the best form of security is to
be careful about opening attachments and downloading files from emails and try to
make your password alphanumeric and keep changing. You can reduce your risk of
becoming a spam victim by using a spam blocker or filter.

parts of the world are still awaiting the rollout of 4G networks, the telecom industry is
already looking ahead to the next generation of cellular technology, called 5G.
Mapping the Long, Winding Road to 5G Wireless Technology . By Ina Fried, Mar 13, 2015,
3:31 AM PDT. But as an emerging technology, there are a lot of questions surrounding 5G.
What is it exactly? How will it work? How will it affect consumers? I asked industry experts,
as well as companies like Nokia and Huawei, for their takes on 5G. Most agreed: The
technology is still a long way from becoming a reality, but it has the potential to completely
change the way we interact with wireless devices, from the smartphones in our pockets to the
cars we drive.
What is 5G?
5G is the name being given to the next generation of wireless networks (this is the fifth
generation, hence 5G), but beyond that, it‟s hard to define. During a keynote address at
MWC, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler compared 5G to a Picasso painting. “I see something
different than you see,” he said. “I think that‟s where 5G is right now. It‟s all in the eye of the
beholder.” Uh, okay.
What will 5G allow me to do that I can‟t right now with 4G?
To provide a little more context around how much faster 5G speeds will be compared to 4G,
let‟s go back to the video example I mentioned at the beginning. According to Huawei, 5G
will allow you to download an eight gigabyte HD movie in six seconds versus the seven
minutes it would take over 4G or more than an hour on 3G.
What are the challenges facing 5G?
One of the big challenges facing 5G is standardization. There are already multiple groups
working to come up with standards around interoperability, backward compatibility with
older technologies (4G, 3G), and making sure the network will be future-proof. While
many companies agree that a global standard is needed, whether they‟ll be able to come
together and agree on one is another story.

Building the infrastructure for 5G is also a huge task, with issues around spectrum and
installing new antennas. 5G is likely going to rely, at least in part, on higher-frequency bands.
There is more space in those airwaves available, but at such high frequencies, signals can‟t
travel nearly as far as they can over the frequencies used for 4G, resulting in apoor
connection.Obstacles like buildings and trees and even bad weather can also cause
interference, according to Nokia‟s Dropmann. To offset that, carriers will need to install more
base stations to ensure better coverage, and use antenna technologies like MIMO (multiple-
input and multiple-output). Ina Fried has more on the long road to 5G here.
How much is 5G going to cost me?
Both Huawei and Nokia agreed that 5G can‟t cost too much more than what consumers are
paying now for 4G; otherwise, no one‟s going to adopt the technology. But it‟s really too
early to say how much 5G devices and services will cost.
When will we get 5G?
Again, it‟s too soon to say for sure, but don‟t count on it in the next couple of years.
The most optimistic targets would see the first commercial network up and running by 2020,
but even that may be too optimistic. As with LTE, it will take years for the network to
become widespread.

with some water and held it before me, and said this:

This was how I saw it. As long as you keep your hand caringly open and allow it to remain
there ,it will always be there.
However, if you attempt to close your fingers round it and try to posses, it will spill through
the first cracks.
This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love…they expect…and just like
the water spilling out of your hand, love will retreat from you.
For love is meant to be free, you cannot change its nature. if there are people you love, allow
them to be free beings.
Give and don’t expect,
Advise, but don’t order,
Ask, but never demand.
It might sound simple; it is a lesson that may take a lifetime to truly practice. It is the secret to
true love. To truly practice it, you must sincerely feel no expectation from those who you
love and yet an unconditional caring.
Passing thought…life is not measured by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments
that take our breath away….
