A Presentation by Kevin Riley for AHIP

This session will offer insights into the role of innovation in changing a company’s culture – towards consumerism.

Retail is a business model that creates direct-to-consumer channels to sell products and services.

Consumerism is a focus on the job-to-be-done of a specific consumer set and the purchase decision behaviors they go through in the process of getting it done.

Retail and Consumerism are different. You can have a retail business model without being consumer-centered – but not very well and not for very long.

We need a way for healthcare companies to align their business activities to produce value for consumers.

Innovation is the inspiration, aspiration and execution tactic a company needs to rapidly make the shift to a consumer culture.

Innovation requires the tools, techniques, and environment to achieve our desired cultural change in a rapid and meaningful way.

To create a ‘culture of innovation’ you must: 1.  Ensure line-of-sight between innovation –

strategy – mission - values 2.  Ensure performance-related measures/

rewards are aligned 3.  Collaborate with internal and external

partners to drive new ideas 4.  Measure, measure, measure

Create a Innovation Culture Council

Specifically, the Innovation Culture Council can: •  Review & approve the COI strategy and plan •  Monitor and evaluate COI metrics •  Conduct annual and periodic reviews of the COI

charter and progress of culture-related metrics •  Champion the development of innovation

competencies within the Enterprise so employees have the knowledge and skills to generate ideas that feed the innovation process

•  Participate in idea evaluation
