Dare to Dream
Budget cuts, staff layoff s, reduction in allocation for develop-
ment and marketing and increased scrutiny about how we
raise and spend money for health care—not exactly a scenario
for taking time to dream. But that is exactly what
our keynote speaker, Kay Sprinkel Grace, is going
to encourage us to do.
In this inspiring keynote address, Kay Sprinkel
Grace will off er inspiration for dreaming, tell us why
we should dream and provide stories and statistics
about what happens to organizations that have
dreamed. While “getting back to zero” is something
we all have to do, it is the truly successful medical
center or hospital that keeps a dream alive.
If we don’t dream, who will? And how can we respond to the
dreams of our donors if we don’t have dreams ourselves? It
does not cost anything to dream. And that dream may be just
what a major donor has been waiting to hear.
Kay Sprinkel Grace understands the challenges of health care
philanthropy as well as its opportunities, and brings her
experience from other nonprofi ts to bear on the often
challenging world of hospital-related volunteerism, outreach,
community building and fund raising. She has worked with
numerous hospitals, hospital systems, hospital foundations,
and health foundations both in California and nationwide.
Kay Sprinkel Grace, CFRE, is a San Francisco-based organizational
consultant providing workshops and consultation to local, regional,
national and international organizations in strategic development
planning, case and board development, staff development and other
issues related to leadership of the fund raising process.

The 7 Habits of Highly Successful Fundraising Shops
Health care fundraising requires persistent, strategic eff ort in a
complex, fast-moving environment. Fundraisers can be easily
drawn into low-return, resource-intensive activities, but those
professionals in rapidly expanding shops share key characteristics—
disciplined focus on the board, delegation of details, asking early
and often as well as four other traits. Ultimately, growing results
requires new strategies and new structures. Guided by two health
care philanthropy experts, this session will explore how to achieve
and maintain these habits in your own shop.
