STRUCTURE:
1 - PRODUCT PROTECTION1A - INDUSTRIAL – Awards will be given for best design in industrial product (product which will go to another industrial plant to be used in manufacturing)
protection. Inner packaging may include foam, substitutions of foam with corrugated, corrugated build-ups, or other forms of protectivepackaging. Judges will consider satisfaction of customer needs, converting complexity, assembly, gluing/joining and over all die cutting.
1B - CONSUMER – Awards will be given for best design in consumer product (product to be used by an end user or consumer)protection. Inner packaging may include foam, substitutions of foam with corrugated, corrugated build-ups, or other forms of protective

2A - COUNTER DISPLAY – Awards for best design in counter displays which also serve as the shipping container. Judges willconsider protective capability, innovative design, and the ease of in-store set-up and assembly.
2B - FLOOR DISPLAYS – Awards will be given for the best design of floor displays which serve as the shipping container. Judges will
consider protective capability, innovative design, and the ease of in-store set-up and assembly.
3 - DISPLAYSFloor displays not serving as a self-shipper.
3A - COUNTER DISPLAYS - Product – Awards will be given for the best design of point-of-purchase counter displays not serving as a self-shipper.Judges will consider point-of-purchase effectiveness, overall design, innovative design, and the ease of in-store set-up and assembly.Emphasis will be placed on the display’s ability to display and support the product.
3B - COUNTER DISPLAYS - No Product – Awards will be given for the best design of point-of-purchase counter displays not servingas a self-shipper. Judges will consider point-of-purchase effectiveness, overall design, innovative design, and the ease of in-store set-up and assembly.
3C - FLOOR DISPLAYS – Product – Awards will be given for the best design of point-of-purchase floor displays not serving as a self-shipper. Judgeswill consider point-of-purchase effectiveness, overall design, innovative design, and the ease of in-store set-up and assembly. PRINTING:1 - COUNTER AND FLOOR SELF-SHIPPER DISPLAYS – Awards will be given for best design in counter displays which also serve as the shippingcontainers. A self-shipper is a shipping container that doubles as the display unit. This entry can be any kind of graphic application (direct print flexo,spot label, full litho, preprint, etc.) using corrugated, although additional points will be awarded to entries using the flexo process. Judges will considergraphic quality, printing complexity, overall design, print-to-cut registration and point-of-purchase effectiveness.

3-FLEXO PRINTING ON COMBINED BROWN BOARDBOARD CATEGORIES - CATEGORIES 3A-3D – Entry must be a corrugated box or other container which is not a display and direct printed oncombined board. Entries demonstrating flexo printing on kraft board should be submitted into one of the following four categories based on the predominantdesign of the piece. The portion of the entry’s design as defined in the chosen category will receive the majority of the judges’ consideration, althoughoverall design will be evaluated. Please read all categories before choosing your entry category.
3A – LINE WORK – Awards for best direct flexo printing of line work on kraft board. Judges will evaluate print fidelity, degree of difficulty, quality offull coverage of solid areas, registration of print, registration of print-to-cut, press speed in printing the job, trapping of colors, and folding and gluing.

Judges will consider the overall quality of the printed white base and resultant trapped colors and screens. Particular attention will bepaid to degree of difficulty, registration, folding and gluing, quality of full coverage of solid areas, use of the liner in the design process, registration ofprint-to-cut, and press speed in producing the box.

4E – PROCESS COLOR – Awards will be given for best process color direct printing oncombined board used to create photographs and art work. Judges will consider print fidelity, qualityof full coverage solid areas, the degree of difficulty, color-to-color registration, and registration ofprint to die cut.
5 - FLEXO PREPRINTED LINER — Not Corrugated/Combined
Awards will be given for best application of flexography on uncombined linerboard which is used inthe design and manufacture of a corrugated package or display. Judges will consider print fidelity,quality of full coverage solid areas, degree of difficulty and registration.

COMBINED TECHNIQUES:
6 - INNOVATIVE USE
Awards for the unique use of corrugated board beyond conventional shipping containers or point-of-purchase displays. Additional points will be given to entries which have used corrugatedto replace another packaging medium.
7 - PROMOTIONAL
Awards will be given for best promotion of a product, idea or servicethrough the use of combined board. Judges will consider creativeness,impact, and overall quality of the graphics. It can be any kind of graphicapplication (direct print, spot label, preprint, etc.) on corrugated.Self-promotions are permitted for this category only. This category will
be ineligible for the Best of Show Award. A converter must make entries to this category.
8 - STUDENT ENTRY
Student entries will be judged in three categories: Flexographic Printing, Flexographic PreprintedLiner and Product Protection Design. Entries should be submitted into one of the following threecategories based on the predominant design of the piece. The portion of the entry’s design asdefined in the chosen category will receive the majority of the judges’ consideration, althoughoverall design will be evaluated. Please read all categories before choosing your entry category.
8A – FLEXOGRAPHIC PRINTING ON COMBINED BOARDAwards will be given for the best direct print piece by a student. Judges will consider overall design,graphic quality, and difficulty of piece. Work may be printed at the school or at a converter. The student must be directly involved in the production process. The entry must be flexo printedon corrugated.
8B – FLEXO PREPRINTED LINER – Not Corrugated/CombinedAwards will be given for best application of flexography on uncombined linerboard which is used inthe design and manufacture of a corrugated package or display. Judges will consider print fidelity,quality of full coverage solid areas, degree of difficulty and registration.
8C – PRODUCT PROTECTION DESIGN – Awards will be given for best design in industrialproduct (product that will go to another industrial plants to be used in manufacturing) orconsumer product (product to be used by an end-user or consumer) protection. Inner packagingmay include foam, substitutions of foam with corrugated, corrugated build-ups, or other forms ofprotective packaging. Judges will consider difficulty of design and application, functionality andcreativeness.
9 - ALTERNATIVE PRINTING PROCESS FOR COMBINED BOARD
This category includes but is not limited to the following processes: Ink Jet/Digital, Screen, Offset.Awards will be given for best printing on combined board which is not printed flexographically. Thegraphics can include line and screen work, halftones, duotones, mezzotints or other screeningtechniques, modified process color, process color. Judges will consider print fidelity and degree ofdifficulty, as well as quality of full coverage solid areas, color-to-color registration, and registrationof print to die cut. Judges will pay particular attention to the written description describing the job,the customer’s need and why an alternative process was chosen over flexography.
10 - ATTENDEES FAVORITE
This category includes all processes. Award will be given to the entry with the most attendee votes.
RULES & ENTRY REQUIREMENTSRules:
CorrPak® 2006 is open to ALL corrugated box makers worldwide. A package or display must have beenmanufactured and sold for commercial use between August 15, 2004 and August 1, 2006.
Note: Entries to the Promotional Category are exempt from the “Commercial Use” requirement.
■ Self Promotions are not permitted entry into any category other than the Promotional Category.
■ Each company location may enter more than one design per category.
■ Boxes submitted incorrectly for a particular category will be eliminated from the competition.Please ensure that your submission is in the correct category as described.
■ An entry may contain aspects appropriate to other categories, but will only be judged onaspects relating specifically to the category entered with other aspects being disregarded.
■ Entry form and fee is required for each category entered.
■ All entries must be die cut except pre-print liner category. If containers are notdie cut, the committee reserves the right to pull the entry from the competition
■ Entry deadline is August 25, 2006.
Entry Requirements:
Entry form must be filled out completely and should include production information such asequipment used, board combinations, quantity, and running speed. For direct print entries,especially those done with multiple passes, sample press sheets showing the color sequence maybe helpful to the judges.
All entrants must provide a digital color photograph in “jpeg” and “tif” or “gif” format with theentry form. This is needed for publishing purposes, onsite identification and set-up. Neither slidesnor paper pictures are accepted.
Entrants should write a brief paragraph describing the nature of the packaging problem solved,benefits derived by the customer, any technical difficulties experienced, and any extraordinaryaspects of the piece. This is not mandatory, but is helpful to the judges. Please DO NOT mentionconverter references in the description.
If you wish to keep your entry, you must have a representative present at the CorrPak® display areaat 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2006. This person will be responsible for packing andshipping the items you wish to keep.
TAPPI will not return or assume any responsibility for the return of any entry. Displays not removedby 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15th will be discarded or recycled with the remaining contentsbeing donated to a local charity.
