Blanket & Coat Collection

With el Niño on its way we’re sure to have an extra cold winter, that’s why our Life Teen high school youth group will be collecting new and slightly used blankets and coats which will then be distributed to those in need on December 13th at St. James Park in San Jose. If you can help, please drop-off washed coats and blankets in the boxes at the main entrance of the church, or drop-them off at the Parish Office. If you’d like to be a chaperone and help with the distribution please contact our Youth Minister, Patty Osorio, for more info.

Please bring any NEW items only, SIZES NEWBORN TO 12 MONTHS to the Box marked “LAYETTE” in the church. You are welcome to attend the Layette Tea on Sunday December 6th at Holy Family Parish Community Center, 4848 Pearl Ave., San Jo-se from 3PM to 4:30PM. Raffle Tickets for themed baskets for sale. Monetary donations accepted year around. Checks made out to “Diocese of San Jose - Layette Funds. Mail directly to Dio-cese of San Jose, Office of Parish Services, 1150 North 1st Street., San Jose CA 95112. Please consider supporting the vital ministry of struggling mothers and their newborns, through the work of public health nurses who give them these items.

As we begin our rapid journey to the Birth of our Lord Jesus on Christmas day we are given this short time to prepare our hearts to receive the greatest gift: our salvation.

It can be hard to slow down when the constant pressure of anticipation, marketing and special events seem to push Christmas further and further away from the true reason we celebrate. Yet, we are called to remain hopeful and peaceful within our busy lives as we enter this Advent time of prayer and prepara-tion.

How do we prepare? First, I would ask each of you to attend the Parish Reconciliation Service this Wednesday, December 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Steve and I, along with several priests will be present to share God’s mercy and love through the sacramental grace of forgiveness.

Second, I ask that you take time thank God each and every day. We continually express the words, ‘Each and every thing comes from God” but often fail to follow this with prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving. Make a special effort to do this in the coming weeks.

Third, don’t be afraid to share these few words with every person you meet: please, thank you and Merry Christmas. Words are powerful and spread holiness and life to the world when given and shared in love.

Last and most importantly: you are more important than any gift. God loves you and invites you share the gift of yourself in serving our brothers and sisters in the example of Jesus.

God Bless, Fr. Mark
