London Cline

The Problem asked me to find the horizontal and vertical connections at A and C of the gable frame (the support reactions). A, B, and C are pin connections. The purlin loads such as D and E are applied perpendicular to the center of each girder.

My Hand Calculations:

Model (just the beams):

Model with Supports and Releases:

Model with Applied Loads:

Reaction Forces:

Robot Results: My Results: % Difference to two decimal places:

Ax= -0.52 kip Ax= -0.5214 kip 0% Ay= 1.47 kip Ay= 1.473 kip 0% Cx= -0.68 kip Cx= -0.6786 kip 0% Cy= 1.97 kip Cy= 1.973 kip 0%

The Robot results match my results exactly. The reason they did not match correctly on the first model was because the pin connection at B should have been modeled as a release, not a support pinned connection. To two decimal places, the Robot model has the exact same results as my calculations predicted.
