Meet the Team

Determine the feasibility of a strut-mountedturbine engine drivetrain alignment by creatinga simplified scaled model and a softwareinterface to demonstrate the alignmentprocess. All findings and conclusions will helppromote any development of future enginepackages.

An important part of this project was thecreation of an alignment program in ExcelVBA. This program uses initial strut positioninputs from the user, then outputs the exactlocations on the linear actuators that wouldachieve drivetrain alignment. A softwareuser manual has been written to explain thebackground code and aid future users of theprogram.

In order to demonstrate the feasibility of the strutalignment system, a physical scale model was designedto mimic the motions of a full-size turbine engine. Seenin Figure 1 below, the scale model represents themoveable turbine depicted by the metal shaft and afixed gearbox depicted by the shorter shaft.
