REFLECTIONS
- Since the project’s scope was identity, the age group was accurate for this exploration given that the students are developing their independence, social skills and friendship is very important in their lives.
- The connections between each student’s artworks have generated an understanding of narrative or story telling through images. When discussed with the students, we came up with the term zoom out narrative, which tells a story about a person starting from the micro and building to the macro.
- According to the students, creating an artwork about themselves turned out to be an easy going creative process, while translating their sense of family, home, school and city into artistic images was more challenging.
- The resources available at school and home make a difference in the outcomes. Most Australian students have focused in the use of digital photography and photo-montage software, while all Colombian students have used more traditional techniques.

REFLECTIONS
-Each teacher had a different methodology and approach to the curriculum. This had an impact on the students’ artworks. In Australia, the students were able to decide when to develop the tasks, the project was another one to be completed during the term. In Colombia the arts class was focused on the development of this project only, so students shared the same time when making their pieces. Australian artworks turned out to be formally more diverse, and Colombian more homogeneous.
-The social differences between the two groups (Colombian students come from a socially disadvantaged background) became a big challenge for my teaching practice. Colombian students expressed feelings of shame when developing works about their house to be sent to students in Australia with higher social status. I wondered how to inspire them to identify aspects to be proud of, economic capacity excepted.
-How, through my practice, can I inspire in students pride and respect for social and cultural differences, while promoting empathy and friendship? As a teacher I think that bringing to schools experiences where students can share with completely different persons or communities, is a fundamental source for educating future world citizens. This type of project builds cultural literacy and social respect and so, social capital in future generations.

COMMENTS AND IDEAS
-Include a category of friends (can go together with ‘my school’)
-Include a category of music, voice, sounds
-Expand the project to other countries
-Next step: making a work of art together through the Internet, build the relationship
-Website is key for the further development of the project and the relationships between friends
