Another load of ScottRothstein's bling headsto auction block

By Peter Franceschina,Sun Sentinel

Next up on the Ponzi auction block:Scott Rothstein's world-class watchcollection and the diamond-encrusted

jewelry he lavished on his wife, Kim,with some pieces expected to fetchtens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Also going under the gavel: A collectionof stylish lighters used by Rothstein tofire up his premium cigars, two late-model Corvettes and a 2009 MercedesSL550 sports coupe.

The auction scheduled July 13 at theBroward County Convention Center willbe the second major sell-off of Roth-stein's material possessions. The firstauction in June 2010 featured many of the convicted fraudster's big-ticket toys— exotic supercars and yachts — andgenerated great public interest, netting$5.8 million to help repay his bilked in-vestors.

As the now-imprisoned Rothstein wasgrabbing tens of millions of dollars fromhis investor-victims, he also spent gen-erously on jewelry, but the nature of hispurchases remained mysterious —they were never described in govern-ment documents in the criminal forfei-

ture action filed against him. RickLevin, who is handling the auction for the government, declined to hazard aguess on how much it might bring in tohelp compensate people swindled byRothstein.

"Its high-end jewelry," he said. "It'sworth what someone is willing to payfor it. They can be people curious aboutthe issues surrounding the items, or they could be interested in the itemsthemselves."

Rothstein is serving a 50-year sen-tence in federal prison,

MILWAUKEE (AP) – If the federal gov-

ernment took out a want ad, it wouldprobably say this: Free to a good home,Milwaukee's breakwater lighthouse.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been shed-ding lighthouses for several years, andnow it's time for the light that has stoodsentinel over the Milwaukee harbor toget the heave-ho.

It could be a museum or the ultimateman cave. And not just anybody cansnap it up. First dibs go to local gov-ernments or nonprofit groups willing topay to maintain it under federal guid-ance. If none step forward, the light-house will be auctioned to the highestprivate bidder.

The Coast Guard will continue to main-tain the light beacon and foghorn, butthe lighthouse has outlived its useful-ness, said Arthur Ullenberg, realty spe-cialist for the U.S. General Services

 Administration.

“They're trying to get out of the light-house business,” Ullenberg said of theCoast Guard.

Under the 2000 National LighthouseHistoric Preservation Act, the CoastGuard turns over the buildings to theU.S. National Park Service, which pub-lishes their availability. Though mostare acquired by nonprofit groups for free in return for restoring and main-taining them for public use such as

tours and museums, those that get nointerest are eventually auctioned. If theMilwaukee Breakwater Light gets notakers by the Aug. 1 deadline for localgovernments and nonprofits, it will im-mediately be put up for auction.
