Page 5: American University in Dubai Proposal (2013)

The bid begins with a warm welcome note from the team in Dubai and our vision for HPAIR 2013, followed by a descriptive glimpse of Dubai and its diverse culture and lifestyle highlighting the Middle East and, specifically, Dubai to be a melting pot of cultures mirroring all ethnicities in Asia.

Next, an in-depth overview about American University in Dubai, its history, location, academic department, cultural aspects and facilities have been described. This provides a good sense of our university’s credibility and prominence in this region.

An elaborate proposed schedule of the events spanning the five days of the conference has been provided, with all the aspects of the schedule being discussed next. The details of the two recommended venues are debated, with floor plans, location, conference rooms and rates.

The Pre- conference tour, Opening ceremony, University day, Arabian cruise night and Gala dinner specifics along with travel details, post and pre conference kits, and details of delegate information desk are conferred next, with a clear vision of our desire to make every aspect of this conference a memorable one.

Following this is a tentative list of potential speakers and sponsors that will enrich this conference with their expertise and support. Adding depth to our bid, publicity plans are delivered next followed by a tentative budget for the conference with an appendix at the end with all official letters.

Finally, a brief on our team synergy is provided, which we believe is one of the vital ingredients to a successful conference.

The second largest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is located on the southern shore of the Arabian Gulf.

As a thriving business hub, the government has set up industry-specific free zones that continue to attract business people from all over the world.

Transportation in Dubai has never been easier.

Dubai Metro is viewed as an iconic addition to

the landmarks and high-flying achievements of

Dubai, particularly as it used cutting-edge

technology of the rail industry, and carved a niche

for itself as the world’s longest driverless

metro project.

To make transportation even easier, Dubai Metro

and public buses complemented each other with

an integrated fare structure and easy connection

of buses at metro stations.

Water transportation is another interesting

transportation option. Many people use Dubai

Abra service (Water Taxis) to go to work, as they

are cheaper than taxis and buses, and avoid the

traffic on bridges and tunnel. There are several

Abra stations along the creek, but the main points

are located near the Gold Souk (Deira), near the

Rivoli Building (Deira) and near the Textile Souq

(Bur Dubai).

Most tourists know Dubai for its incredible

modern landmarks and architectural innovation.

Looking at the historical side, the oldest area in

Dubai is called Al Bastakiya. It challenges the

notion image that truly defines Dubai. It stands

stalwartly as the ultimate of historic areas in

Dubai, dating back to the 1890’s. With the iconic

wind tower (or Barjeel, as the residents call it)

situated in every single house in Al Bastakiya

for ventilation, it is a district that truly defines

Dubai’s ingenuity from its early days. This

cultural landmark is just an example of the gems

that visitors to Dubai can explore in contrast with

our modern architectural achievements.

food is available, from classic European to Pacific

Rim. You can eat Mexican, Polynesian, Japanese,

Chinese, Thai, Korean, Indian, Pakistani, Persian,

Italian and French cooking, and more, at some of

the finest restaurants in the Middle East.

International fast-food chains, serving the

standard fare of hamburgers, chips, pizzas etc. are

also readily available all over the city. The Emarati

offer a true taste to the culture in the gulf and

2013AUD // history

An American university in Dubai…

The American University in Dubai opened its

doors in October 1995.

AUD’s initial enrollment was 165 students, over

half of which were females. By the time former

Secretary of State and Treasury James Baker

gave the Keynote at AUD’s first commencement

in 1998, enrollment had climbed to 499; and

the Dubai government, as an expression of

confidence, had decided to build a campus of

1,400,000 square feet for use by the university.

AUD moved out of its initial premises to occupy

this new, spacious, fully equipped campus

in January 2000. Its enrollment at that time

was 687.

The year 2000 was also significant because it was

in that year that the university was officially

licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education

and Scientific Research (MOHE). The private

sector for higher education had grown

considerably since AUD’s founding, and the

Ministry saw fit to establish a formal licensure

and (subsequently) accreditation process.

It was in 2000 that AUD’s largest academic

department – Business Administration – was

organizationally designated as a School.

We aim to get the word across and to publicize the conference to our maximum capability. We understand the need of publicity for such an educational conference and believe that a strong marketing campaign will prove beneficial for both the conference in Dubai as well as potential conferences in years to come.

Therefore, the marketing strategies used to promote this conference locally have been classified in the following medians: Social Media, Print, Television/Radio and government organizations.

All of these characteristics and so many others are interwoven into the very fabric of our team as it combines students from all areas of interest and skills.
